Sparkling!
I am 51 and it is about time that I get serious about my fitness and physical well-being. Today my 3 boys started walking together! I guess I need to get going as well.
Updated 9/24/10: My sons got me started, and now I actually walk more than they do. But I am grateful that they helped me get motivated!

SOME THOUGHTS & GOALS:
I want to eventually lose about 15 more pounds, fit into a very special holiday skirt, and be able to tie my shoes & paint my toenails without getting out of breath!
I want to be so settled in this healthier lifestyle that I won't easily drift out of it. I want to think before I splurge and decide whether it is worth it or not. I want to get to the point where I easily recognize urges to eat for emotional reasons. Also to recognize and mostly avoid "trigger" foods that seem to cause me to eat too much of them.
I want to continue to walk and gradually increase my steps-per-day and miles-per-week goals.
I would also like to do more strength training and stretching.

My Goals:
Became active on SparkPeople in late April, 2010.
Weight: 172
Weight goals:
1st goal: 160
Reached goal: 8/14/10
2nd goal: 150
As of 9/23/10, I weigh 155: Half-way there! (That is 5 pounds in about 6 weeks. At current rate, I could reach 150 by the end of October.)
{I did it! I reached 150 pounds BEFORE the end of October! I am psyched!}
Reached 2nd goal: 10/28/10
3rd goal: to drop into the "Healthy" BMI column before Christmas...or better yet, before the first Christmas party! That means I have about 6 pounds to go, in about as many weeks.
{I reached my 3rd goal! I hit 144 & dropped into the "Healthy" BMI column before Christmas--on December 21, 2010 to be exact. And not only that, but I lost one more pound the very next day!}
4th goal: reach 142 pounds by New Year's Eve (2010) for a total weight loss of 30 pounds since spring of 2010.
{I did not reach this goal on schedule. It took me
My Program:
My overall goal is to get more healthy and lose some weight. I have several health issues that are effected by weight-gain. I was in the overweight category when I started here on SP. I am in the healthy category now!
Other goals:
Track food.
Track fitness.
Become more active.
Add more fiber.
Drink 9 cups of water a day.
Eat MORE FRESH fruits and veggies.
Eat 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day.
Reduce sodium.
Keep my sweet tooth under submission! :-)
Drop below the "overweight" category!
Personal Information:
Born in Florida, to Christian parents, I have 3 sisters & 1 brother, each of whom knows Christ as Savior. I had the blessing of being taken to Bible-teaching churches all my childhood & youth.
Now I live in South Georgia & have been in Georgia since Oct. 1986.
Not only am I privileged to be a stay-at-home-mom, but also to homeschool my boys. (GA is a very homeschool-friendly state, BTW!) The 2013-14 school year marks the 20th year of homeschooling for our family. My children have always been taught at home and--thanks be to God--so far this has worked for us! I have 3 boys. Two of them have finished school & passed their GEDs. Just one left to go, & he is in the 10th grade. (If the Lord allows us to continue until ds3 graduates, we will have homeschooled for 22 years!)
Other Information:
I am an American by the Grace of God! Even with all of this country's faults and our current bigger-than-life problems, we still have it better here than people do in many places on earth. I thank God for my country!

Today is a new day and a new opportunity...to walk with the Lord...to be a better wife, mom, & friend...to be healthy & fit! "This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:21-23)
