When I joined Spark People back in 2006, it was with the high hopes that I had finally found an answer to my life long battle with my weight.

I tracked and exercised and lost over 40 lbs! Unfortunately, life changes happened and I quit tracking first and eventually stopped exercising. And I think you know what happened next. Yes, I gained the weight back!

Over the last few years, my story is the same as many other Sparkers. My weight has been up and down. My weight is finally taking a toll on my health and I have had to go on blood pressure meds. I am very disappointed in myself but I am not a failure as I have never quit trying.

In Oct 2014 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I always said my weight was not affecting my health so I was blindsided with my diagnosis. I guess I was in denial. All my poor food choices and lack of exercise finally caught up with me!

My A1C was 7.8 and I was told to lose 40-50 lbs as soon as possible. I took my diagnosis very seriously and began following a low carb/high fat diet and a walking program. The pounds starting falling off. I have now lost 68 lbs and I see my goal weight as a reality.

My A1C is now 5.3 and I am off all my meds so I am hopeful to be at goal when I go to my Doctor in June.

We haven't felt the earth quakes up in our direction as we are about 4.5 hrs northwest of Ridgecrest where the big quakes are happening at present. I feel sorry for them having to pick up over and over. When we baby-proofed our home last year we up bolo ties on all our cupboards. I just haven't taken them off as they will keep them closed during a quake and I won't lose all my crystal, china and my mothers set of depression glass.
We worked today on picking apricots and cherries. Some of the neighbors may come by tomorrow evening and take some. Then I think I'll call the local food shelter and see if they want the rest. Hate to see them go to waste. I've been skinning them and making freezer preserves. Made a cobbler out of them too. Oh so good. Good thing we burned up the calories out working with the trees. I'm doing balance exercises too and I do water aerobics. Trying to keep active!
Well, home you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Sharon! Remember me? It's been a LONG time since I've been on SparkPeople. A long time and an even longer journey of ups and downs. Hoping that you're doing well and hanging in there. Would love to catch up with you, if you're interested. Have a great day!

Congrats on the new car. My nephew and family drive Kia's and really like them. Hope you have many safe motoring miles. I rented a PT cruiser one time and I was really impressed with how well I liked it. My passengers did too as they said it had a lot of leg room in the back. Before that I always thought they looked like the movie car "Dick Tracy" drove.

I see a few RV's here with their small cars on little trailers, but for the most part they just use a tow bar. I guess I didn't know you needed a straight stick to tow them behind, but it makes sense. Maybe there is a market for my little manual Nisson Sentra bought in 1997 with only 30,000K miles on it at present. We use have used it the most for hauling our bikes to trails. As it is an older car, no one bothers it. LOL

HI, hope your weekend went well. Friday we had an outing with the grands. What a great day! Exciting to see them explore and learn. We were really tired when we got home. Saturday we ran errands all day. Today we were around home until the afternoon. Went for lunch and to return a couple of desk mats we bought. Thought maybe one without the pickers would be easier on the short looped carpet in the office, but it slid all over. I'll have to think of something else that might keep the pickers from pulling at the fibers. Our new office project is finally finished!! I'll have to get some pics on my site soon. emoticon The $th is soon!

Hi there!! I'm around again. I was just re-reading your Feb note for a better health month....NOT.. I came down with pneumonia to top everything else off. I was sick all of February. I didn't go to the hospital but the clinic had me come in every other day to see the Dr. I told him I had the pneumonia shot...he said it was a different strain. Nasty winter for both DH and myself. Along about March things started looking up and I came out of the house for the frist time in a long time. I've been making up for lost time. I lost about 20 lobs over the winter and of course gained 10 back. Working on that yet again! Hope you are having a great summer. Can't believe it will be the 4th of July next week.
