Welcome to my story. It's now been 5 years since I started on this path to achieve health and wellness. On January 22, 2007, I got out of bed and worked out for the first time in a long time. This was day one of putting an end to being "sick and tired of being sick and tired." I weighed 278.5 lbs that morning. I can't recall a 'lightbulb' moment that prompted me to get started, I guess the good thing is that I got started regardless of the reason why. It certainly was about time!! Now, over 5 years later, I work out regularly and have lost 115 lbs (I lost 100 lbs in the first 10 months, losing the rest is taking longer because I find myelf getting complacent with my food choices more often now). I want to lose another 35 lbs or so (it's been so long since I was in that weight range, so I'll have to see what looks good for me and what I can maintain).

My Goals:
To lose another 20-25 lbs which would mean I'd lost more than 1/2 my body weight.

To run a marathon (10/10/10)

To hike in the Adirondacks.

To take a tandem skydive.

My Program:
I call my diet and fitness lifestyle program 'Mary's Self Care Plan'. Because taking care of myself is what this is about. It's not 'rocket science'. The concept is simple (eat less & eat healthy and exercise regularly), it's the commitment and follow through that can be challenging. Basically, I'm making better and healthier food choices (most of the time!) and I work out at least 5 times per week for about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours depending on what I'm doing. I run about 30 miles per week and joined a running group in March 2009. I love running, but I also walk on my treadmill to give myself a break. I also do strength training with a video 1-2 x per week.

Personal Information:
My name is Mary and I'm 40 years old. I am a clinical social worker and live in Upstate New York.

I ran my first 5k in 10/2008, now I've completed multiple 5ks, 4 and 5 mile races, 4 10ks, 2 15ks, a 10 mile race, a marathon relay, 2 half marathons, and now I'm training for my first marathon on 10/10/10. Couldn't have imagined any of this 3 years and over 100 lbs ago!
