    At my heaviest I was 168, which is over the obese mark for my height. I put on twenty pounds in college which I have finally taken off. But I started gaining in high school, going from 130-ish to 145 ... so I still have a ways to go before I can even begin to feel like I have my body back. I'm shooting for 120-ish because I would rather be in the low to mid healthy range than the upper healthy range, because the low to mid range means I won't be back in the overweight category if the weight starts creeping back. So we have both lost twenty pounds and have twenty-some more to lose if we want to end up around 120. But we can both appreciate that we look a whole lot better now in the 140s than we did in the 160s! I see about a dress/pants size and a half of difference.

    The problems that got me here: indulgences and calorie dense food and larger portions because "I earned it", a relatively sedentary lifestyle during college, and feeling like I would never successfully lose the weight. So now I try to average an hour of exercise a day. I aim for a minimum of 3 one-hour cardio sessions and two strength training sessions (with lots of reps) a week and that seems to be enough to give me results. I have been eating only enough to feel full and I have been monitoring the quality of my food choices. And the blog has been a game-changer for me because it makes me feel like I would let people down if I gained it back or gave up, so that added pressure is a form of accountability and structure that works for me.

    Oh I see you just joined SP! Welcome aboard! My biggest tip to newbies: when you first join SP, there is a "honeymoon phase" where you have a surge of motivation and enthusiasm because this website and especially the community are so unique from anything else most of us have ever tried. Ride that wave as long as possible!

    We do have a lot in common. I graduated college in December, and I'm 23. So a few years apart in age but sort of at the same stage in life with those added academic pounds to lose. I would love to be your sparkfriend - and I don't mean friend in a generic way. I will read your blogs, give you friendly advice, be an accountability buddy (if you want to), and anything else you could want from a friend. I think it is the sparkfriends that is what makes this site so special - the fact that complete strangers care enough about us to involve themselves in our struggles and successes.
