Becoming the Person I Want To Be
David Viscott noted that "You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be." Since I was not pleased with the person that I saw in the mirror, I recognized that I needed to make some changes. I needed to make better choices.

David Viscott noted that "You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be." Since I was not pleased with the person that I saw in the mirror, I recognized that I needed to make some changes. I needed to make better choices.
I believe that we are a composite of the choices we make. One of the best choices I made was on April 12, 2007--the day I joined Spark People. Unfortunately, after joining this group I evolved into an inactive reader of others' successes. Fortunately, I continued to read the various inspirational Spark member messages and the expert, up-to-date healthy lifestyle information. Finally, on May 27, 2010, I became sufficiently motivated to commit to becoming an active Sparkie because I was no longer comfortable in my own skin!
Reading the various messages over that span of time convinced me that I could achieve success, too. I became a believer that everything a person does makes a difference in his/her life and the lives of others. I learned that the smallest of actions can accumulate into the greatest of accomplishments. I noticed that the smallest desires can ignite the greatest goals.
I decided to commit myself to becoming the person I want to be. Kenneth Blanchard wisely observed that "there is a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results."
The initial step of decreasing my weight involved decreasing stress in my life. Because I am an emotional person who seeks comfort and celebration in the rhythm of chewing, I recognize that my future is tied to maintaining a healthier perspective and attitude of my daily experiences. So, I am committed to heeding the following advice:
"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right;
forget about the ones who don't and
believe that everything happens for a reason.
If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said that it would be easy,
they just promised it would be worth it."
Because I have been on numerous diet plans, I have learned from experience that attitude is the most difficult aspect of losing weight and maintaining a weight loss. When I have a healthy attitude; I eat correctly, exercise, decrease my weight, maintain weight reductions and I can make and successfully complete commitments to the goals I make.
The choices I make now and in the future will determine my ability to decrease my weight. If weight change is to be, it is up to me to select healthy options. I am committed to making the changes and the choices which will create positive results!
I believe in me and I believe in the process of weight reduction--eat less and move more. I know that consistency brings success-- the success I need to enhance my self-esteem, confidence, and ability to obtain the healthier life style I seek.
Ounce by ounce, inch by inch, step by step, drop by drop, and breath by breath a smaller, healthier, happier me will soon emerge, because:
I AM DONE making excuses!
I AM DONE being overweight!
I AM DONE hiding behind big clothes!
I AM DONE dreading social events!
I AM DONE putting myself last!
I AM DONE sitting on my butt!
I AM DONE hiding from cameras!
I AM DONE overeating!
I AM DONE feeling embarrassed about my weight!
I AM DONE wishing I was thin and doing nothing about it!
I AM DONE not working towards my goals!
I AM DONE feeling tired!
I AM DONE with the emotional eating!
I AM DONE making poor choices!
I AM DONE living in denial!
I AM DONE lying to myself!
I AM DONE saying only what I want to hear!
I AM DONE being the fat lady!
I wish each and every Sparkie much happiness, health, and success. I also thank you for your companionship on this journey to find the me which I hope to be! Your encouragement, inspiration, motivation, and friendship are sincerely appreciated.
