Remember take your time and do your best!! When you are running and struggling repeat a MANTRA in your head. They work. Focus on small things like the next pole or just running to the next crack in the ground up ahead and keep doing it. GOOD LUCK!! You will do awesome!

Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I think I will run in February (or walk if I have to)

As for training pointers -- ??? I'm kinda making it up as I go along. Way back in highschool I ran the mile in track. I am kinda building a program off of what my old track coach used to make the distance runners do... (Sure hope he knew what he was doing.)

I too can run 30 min on the elliptical at 50- 60 (and yes, the elliptical is so much easier).

As for track time: Right now I am just trying to build to a real run for a 5 K -- So, last week I worked on running 100 m walking 100 m -- I can do this for 2 miles now. Tomorrow, I'm going to change up and run 200 m and walk 100 m. I hope to be able to do this for at least 1 mile. (I'm going to be a bit short on time for the track, so I have to keep it under 1 hr 30 min -- the last track day took me 2.5 hours.)

Eventually I hope to work the program we did in highschool:

1 day speed running 100s or 200s or 400s followed by running 1 mile
1 day distance running - run 5 miles
    1 day ladders (I hated these) You would run a 100, then a 200, then a 400, then an 800, then a 400, then a 200, then a 100 -- then repeat
1 day lap pace training -- he set our pace for a 400 and we were supposed to run 2 miles 1 lap at a time at or about our pace time.
1 day track rest before a race.

I don't know if this is doable in a single week at my age. I may have to break it into 2 week segments and use my elliptical on the other days.

So, I don't know if that helps. I know there is a couch to 5K program out there but it costs money. I don't have any to spare right now so I'm going to go it on my own.

Anyhow, let me know what you think -- here's to running in February!!!!
