September 2018: Overdue at 42 weeks Pregnant! I wish I had stayed on Sparkpeople during my pregnancy. ...I was so overworked and nausiated much of the time I lost touch with Sparkpeople. I gained too much weight but had a healthy, pregnancy and am now back to 'reclaim' my body.

I started with Sparkpeople in August 2010 with the motivation of losing weight to look good. As of 2018 my goal to live as long and healthy as possible for my husband and baby daughter Marilyn Tovah (born in September 2018.)

Hi I am Samantha, I was born three months premature on a Native American reservation in Montana, I am half German & half Native American. I've been living near Dusseldorf Germany for six years with my husband who is a local.

(Hilarious Post DNA test update: Dad is Native American, & Portuguese. Mom is typical Wisconsinite (south) German, Irish, Italian & Ashkenazi Jewish)

I work as a social sciences teacher at a bilingual high school. This job literally has me on my feet all day and is full of all the challenges one can imagine working with children/families in an extremely bureaucratic society :) My work keeps me alert and Sparkpeople keeps me accountable!

I am a practicing Christian (Catholic) and seek to live each day as a witness. Particularly though practicing acts of kindness and charity. (Matthew 25, 34-40.)

My Goals:
I weighed myself once in January 2020 and do not intend to do so again until the end of the year. My focus no longer is on maintaining a numerical weight but rather reducing inflamation, following a low carbohydrate high protein diet.Supplementing with Osteo Bi-Flex, Fish Oil and Tumeric has been such a blessing and I can now workout with the intensity that I need to.

I recently discovered via a DNA test that I carry two copies of a gene that increase my risk of late onset Alzheimers, so now a part of a fit lifestyle includes focusing on cognitive exercise.

Oh and...no I am not destined to be 'fat.' I have about an average rate of developing diabetes as others in my socio-ethnic group by 50 and am set to weigh about average. There it is, outcomes are up to me! :)


My Program:
Treadmill 3x per week
Stationary Bike 1x a week
Brain Training & German languge study 5x a week
Bible Study, Rosary & Mass attendance 5x a week
Major emphasis on following a low carbohydate, wheat free, high protein diet.


I walk constantly, that's the good thing about living and working in Western Europe. We rely a lot less on cars and are always running for trains, buses and trams.

I am a trained Special Education teacher, I started Spark while finishing my MA in Education. I have been working as a teacher since 2010.

I am fanatical about travel! :P I grew up working class and always wanted to travel so I work hard and save to be able to backpack in different countries. So far I have been to:
