My name is Rolenia Thomas. I am 50 , on disability, Catholic, married, have a Daushund named Cinnamon, two cats Destiny and Purcy and on facebook as Rolenia Thomas.. I just lost my mother and best friend in May 5th 08. I have worked on my health through the help of Sparkpeople. Heart trouble runs in the family. I have 3 heart valve defects (aorta & tri-cupid) and on medication for it. Feel better than I ever have because the meds work and I am eating right and exercising right now. I suffer from depression, lack of sleep, high blood pressure (no longer have now because pain is controlled by implant), overactive bladder, chronic back pain (nerve damage in S1 of spine, bulging disk L4&L5,disc degeneration), thyroid problems (have Hashimoto's disease) and fibromyalgia. If I can lose this weight you all can too. I just had a bunionectomy on Dec 11th 2009. Still recovering. I had a spinal cord stimulator implant on May 15th. As long as it is on, it numbs my pain. Since I've been on this site, I've lost 45 pounds as of March 29th. My start weight was 181. Now I'm down to 143. I am so proud of myself because I have hypothyroidism. This makes it hard to lose weight. I have shown that because you have hypothroidism, doesn't mean you can't lose weight. I've worked hard. There are 4 stages to this lifestyle change. I am now in stage 4. Last stage is the 4th one. This stage will keep me on track and motivate me more to stay on track forever. I am now a CO-LEADER ON EMOTIONAL EATERS TEAM. I am on my way to a better lifestyle change. Being with sparkpeople has helped me mentally too. I am more positive, like looking at myself now and feel more confident in me. I have been voted as a Motivator too. Hard to believe. Drink lots of water, using the nutrition tracker and posting is the key to success. We can't change the past, but we can change today.
Current news as of Sept. 22nd 09:
I lost my grandmother (mom's mother) on June 12th 09. My sister had a terrible car accident on July 1st 09. I have now gained 9 pounds back because I have let all this get the best of me. Now, I have just put my head back on straight. I am confessing this because I must be honest, hold myself accountable, and show others members how easy it is to get back on the wrong path to a healthier lifestyle. We all make mistakes but just as long as we admit it and do something about it, we'll be fine. We all can do this with the support of each other. I get 8 to 9 hours of sleep at night, eat 3 meals a day, 2 snacks and walking 8 blocks in the evenings. I've got a new family doctor and she has me on the right meds I need for my heart and etc. Now with the meds, diet and exercise, I feel like a new woman. Enjoying life now.

    Wishing you a Happy and Healthy 2015!

    I just read this poem & felt it too good not to share on this CHRISTmas Eve! God bless!

    {This is another version of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas' }

    'Twas the night before Jesus came
    and all through the house
    Not a creature was praying,
    Not one in the house.
    Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
    In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

    The children were dressing to crawl into bed.
    Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
    And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
    Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

    When out of the East there arose such a clatter.
    I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
    Away to the window I flew like a flash,
    Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

    When what to my wondering eyes should appear
    But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
    With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
    I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!

    The light of His face made me cover my head
    It was Jesus! returning just like He had said.
    And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
    I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

    In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
    Was written the name of every saved man.
    He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
    When He said "it's not here" my head hung in shame.

    The people whose names had been written with love
    He gathered to take to His Father above.
    With those who were ready He rose without a sound.
    While all the rest were left standing around.

    I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
    I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
    I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
    Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

    In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
    The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
    There's only one life and when comes the last call
    We'll find that the Bible was true after all!

    (by Reverend Edward M. Gionest, Sr.)

    To those who receive Him, He gives the power to become the sons of God, even to those that believe on his name. Repent and declare with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved.
