Welcome to my little corner of the world at Spark People!

(This intro is outdated. I've added an update at the end or you can read my blog from 10/08/09.)

My name is Rhonda, I'm 45, married to my high-school sweetheart for 29yrs, mom to 3 beautiful women and 2 little boy monkeys, and Mimi to one Tater-tot. I am a certified Elementary teacher, currently unemployed so I can be a SAHM. I own and operate a store on the internet which sells children's clothing, swimwear, bibs, costumes, and motocross gear. My store is called "Sugar Bearz" and you can find it at www.sugarbearz.com or www.mxkidz.com.

I have struggled with my weight since puberty and during most of that time period, it has won. I was at my all-time (non-pregnant) weight in April of 2002 when I weighed 235. If losing weight slow is the way to do it then I must be doing it perfectly, lol, cuz 5 years later I am down 45 pounds from that but I still have about 40 more to go!

My fitness/nutrition regimen is: I currently eat a higher protein, lower carb diet than most people. I walk on the treadmill 3-6 times per week and lift weights at the gym 3x per week. I will hit this regimen hard for a few months then my body seems to tell me that I need a break and then I'll back off for a couple months, gain a few pounds, then hit it again and lose even more. Three steps forward, one step back. That's why it took me 5 years to get this first 45 pounds off. Seems like it's working for me. So I guess I keep chipping away at it till it don't work no more. =o)

Update:
Fast forward 2.5 years. I am now 48. I fell off the wagon (so to speak) back in 2007 and am now back at my all time high weight. I am struggling very hard to try to convince myself to get back on. It was a LOT of work the first time around and I really only made it halfway to my goal weight. Why go through all that if I cannot make it there or even keep off what i worked so hard for? Why not just accept me the way I am. Well, I'm not happy with me this way so I know that I will climb back on but I am REALLY struggling to get started again. I keep telling myself that today is the day but then at some point throughout the day I realize that today must not be the day because I am not doing what I need to do. Sigh...

My Goals:
My goals are to get to a healthy weight so that I feel better and have a better quality of life as I age (ugh, did I just say that? lol)


My Program:
Eating healthy low-fat sugar-free foods. I am being careful with carbs but nothing extreme. I eat a higher protein diet than most people. I am strength training 3x/wk and trying to get 10,000 + steps in each day.

    I probably did more than 1150!! I did my Zumba class for an hour(550 cal) then I did lap swim at the Y for over an hour. But.....I got up this morning and gained 2 lbs, uuuugh!! Wonder why I even try!! :( How are you doing?

    Hi Rhonda!! Hope things are going well with you. I am still going at it full force, although I just did a 5 day vacation with my girlfriends, went to Frankenmuth,MI, then up to Betty's lake place. I had such a great time but we ate way to good, so I am back in the saddle today.

    What are you doing for exercise these days? I want to encourage you anyway I can. We need to stick together!!
