Working all aspects the Public Safety arena for the last 26 years. I have been putting on the weight as each year went by. Working as a Police Officer and a Fire Fighter E.M.T. I was able to work but as each year passes and the weight kept going up it became harder to keep up with my younger and healthy co-workers.
After retiring from the Police Department, I choose to continue to work as an E.M.T. on a Medic Unit in a rural environment. I also became a Realtor and find that the weight hinders my ability to walk up stairs and keep up with my clients.
In August (2008) I had a complete physical, My Doctor was very frank with me and said that even though my "numbers" were ok and I did not need to be on any medications but my "number" were slowly creeping up. I was classified as "healthy obese" but if I did not do something very soon I has heading for a major heart attack. Working with him I had lost 80 pounds but fell off the wagon and over 20 months I 79 pounds back on.
Just before Thanksgiving this year I was cornered by my children, it hit me where it hurts when they told me they were scared that they would get a phone call in the middle of the night telling them I had had a heart attack and that I would not be around. They felt strong about it that they want to pay for me to seek any help that I needed to lose the weight, this brought us all to tears.
It was at that moment that I knew it was time to get off my a** and get to it.
I have chosen to work with Doctor to lose the weight. He has me on a high protein diet (based on the Zone ) he has me taking Phentremine for now. I meet with him once a week for a weigh in, at this time I also get a vitamin B-6 and B-12 injection and take a complete vitamin regiment.
During the first 8 weeks of my dietary changes I have averaged 21 servings of lean protein with 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables . I have lost 36.7 pounds and dropped 2 pants sizes.
So that is my story so far, Spark People was a great find and a tool that I use several times per day.
