How is it going? I hope the adjustment to unemployment has not been too stressful for you. If you feel so inclined, this might be a great time to volunteer for community organizations as the holidays approach. It will feel wonderful to help other people and it will keep you busy instead of replaying the nonstop record of "what ifs" in your head. The other added benefit of volunteering is that it can lead to a temporary or even a permanent job, maybe something much better than what you had before!? Plus you will expand your network--the vast majority of great jobs never get posted in the paper or in want ads, they are filled through networking.

I have been there--trust me, I understand the worrying. But I came to realize that worrying was a huge waste of time and emotional energy. It does not solve the situation and it often redirects your thinking to negative outcomes instead of positive results. Good luck!

Sorry about the loss of your job. The same thing happened to me in March of 2009. Hang in there and use the techniques you have learned here-focus on your goals, stay positive, and know that you will succeed. One of the things I repeated to myself when I was having difficulty finding work was, "Not NO, just not NOW." That helped a lot.

Also, it helps to have some structure to your days. Use this time as a gift to get your home life organized. Having projects to complete each day will prevent you from dwelling on the "what ifs." Also, exercise--somehow breaking a sweat (especially outdoors) keeps everything in perspective. Watching birds and animals in nature reminded me that their needs were met, so why would I be any different?

The right opportunity will appear at the right time. And remember you are not what you do! Good luck, I will say a prayer for you today.
