I am back to try again. This time, I have gained back up to 248. I have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure and hypothyroidism. I have been doing some research and decided that the Protein Power Lifeplan is going to serve me best. On this plan, I eliminate sugars and simple refined carbohydrates and ensure that I get adequate protein and fats and antioxidants from fruits and veggies. I started gradually changing my eating habits and reading the book again on 3/7/11. I have already lost down to 236. So, I think that is a good start! Wish me luck!

My life is a common story of up an down weight problems. Right now I am in the midst of a very UP phase. I have exceeded my all time high weight by a few pounds. I have been hanging around 250-255 for the last monthor so. I am determined to be sucessful this time. In the past, I have tried several "fad" diets and lost significant amounts of weigt. But, it never stayed off for very long. The last time was about 4 years ago. I lost about 50 pounds on the Adkin's diet and managed to keep off half of it, until I got a new job. I am a registered nurse, and my jobs have always involved alot of walking. But, a year ago I left the clinic environment and took a school job. Now, I sit all day. So, I have gained over 20 pounds back in the last year. It's driving me crazy!! Wish me luck!

*****Update 4/22/09******
Ok, so I wrote that paragraph above about 2 years ago and I didn't accomplish anything. I gave up, fell off the wagon, fell out, just plain failed. I went back to eating everything in sight and sitting on the couch watching television. I just started the Flat Belly Diet plan on 4/13/09. I was 250# at the first weigh in. I want to eat this way for the rest of my life. It is not about being skinny anymore. I am 35 years old, 100# overweight, have high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome, and have all the risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes. I have to do something for medical management. I hope that this will keep me commited to my new lifestyle.
Update: 8/22/09

I have been surprising myself quite frequently with my success in this weight loss endeavor. I have settled into a pretty clean eating pattern of 1600 cal of whole grains, lean protein, fruits and veggies and healthy fats. I am enjoying it and not encountering many temptations to revert to my old, nasty eating habits. I have been allowing myself one or two "cheat" meals per week. But not anything extravagant or over the top. I have completed a cycle of Power 90 and I just started my first time through P90X. I weigh 218.5 pounds today. So, I have lost a little over 30 pounds in four months. I guess that id good. But, I wish it was coming off faster! I am just being impatient, I know. I can't wait to see what will change in the next four months! Stay tuned!!

    Hi Pam,

Don't worry about missing a day of P90X due to muscle soreness....we all have these days and the best thing to do is rest and pick it back up the next day. Make sure not do over do...injuries are much more difficult to overcome than an off day.

    Take care, Sheila emoticon emoticon
