I have been a stay at home mom for 14 years. Along the way I have maintained my weight pretty regularly, but it's been creeping up as I get older. I finally got to a point where I just did not like the way I looked or felt. I've never been an athlete by any means, but I do like to be active. I tried Weight Watchers several years ago and I lost 20 lbs and I felt great! I maintained it for a year, but I got tired of counting points all the time. I joined Spark in 2006 and have been up and down since then, but never consistently sticking to it. I've belonged to a couple gyms and have tried to continue to work out, but my body was not exactly responding how I wanted it to.

Finally I started reading about clean eating at the end of 2011. At first I thought I could not do it. Then in January 2012 I decided to quit drinking caffiene. I realized I no longer needed it and I felt so much better without it. Then I started taking steps to clean up my diet. In March 2012 I got serious about clean eating. At first my family was supportive of me but didn't really want to join me except in eating the dinners I made for them. My husband has since come around and even though he doesn't totally follow my philosophy, he is committed to eating well and has changed so much in that area. The kids are becoming more receptive to my way of thinking and encouraging me. They still like to eat unhealthy foods and I don't totally deny them, but I feel like such a better mom for making sure that a majority of the food I give them is really good for them (and tasty too). Not that I was filling them with garbage before, but I just didn't understand what clean eating meant. We rarely go out to eat anymore and that thrills me because it was giving me a lot of trouble with my innards.

Last November my husband and I joined a gym together. I had been out of the habit for several months and was unhappy with my lack of energy and how bad I felt all the time. I met a personal trainer there and was so happy because all of 2011 I was experiencing severe pain from tennis elbow (which was not caused by tennis). He really helped me work around that and gain strength in my arm. Just under a year later I am mostly healed and my arm is stronger! When we first joined the gym I was so gung ho, I was there 5 days a week following the program my trainer set up for me. Then Holidays came, then we had a few out of town trips and we were hit and miss until March 2012. That was the point when I had become so interested in clean eating and was online all the time looking at transformations online and I got serious. The next time I saw my trainer to switch things up I told him I was now seriously committed to losing some weight and looking better because my sister is getting married in October 2012. He was excited. He's got me doing some rather intensive workouts now but I won't stay with them forever and I love changing things up every 6 weeks because it stops me from getting bored and keeps me working hard.

It's been 6 weeks since I got serious about my eating and exercise. I am in firm belief that I am not dieting but eating and exercising for my life. I eat clean, about every 2-3 hours and I track my calories and nutrients on Spark. I have lost 8 lbs and a few inches off my body. Pants that did not fit me at Christmas are loose on me and that is just the best feeling!

There are days I have struggles, but most days I am feeling so good. There are days when I feel like it's not happening fast enough and in the past that would have made me quit. There is no quitting now though, I don't have a desire to go back to eating how I was so it doesn't even matter. If I'm having a bad day in my thinking I do everything I can to change it. I look for inspiration online, I tell my husband I'm feeling low about my size, I remind myself of the changes I've made and how far I've come. Luckily my husband is my biggest supporter and he is sharing this journey with me (he's lost 20 pounds and looks amazing!).

I am so excited to see what the future will bring when it comes to what my body can do.
