    Support: The journey to permanent weight loss sometimes needs a shoulder to lean on or encouragement from someone who cares and understands. Think seriously about who is most likely to give you positive support when you most need it. You may ask someone to be your sounding board when you need to vent or work out a problem; another to hold you accountable by asking about your progress and to understand your struggles and successes; another to help boost your spirits if you get down; another to be your exercise buddy¦ they may be acting as caring family and friends and not know they are supporting you¡ but YOU will know and thank them.

    SMART Goals are actually a plan for your weekly success! Set your goals to mindfully plan for the week (or day) to motivate your weight loss efforts. Plan the details to meet each goal. The wonderful thing about goal setting is that it works into your thought process and one day you will notice how your thinking has changed¡¦it becomes focused on making positive choices and overcoming obstacles. Your goals reinforce healthy lifestyle behaviors.

    If you are struggling with your eating plan, how can you change it to feel more satisfied?

    Are you trying some new foods and finding that you enjoy eating this way?

    Are you finding that there really IS time to add physical activity to your busy days? Keep looking for every opportunity to move more. Notice how good it feels to move more. Do you notice increased energy from exercising more? Think about these bonus health benefits from increasing your activity.

    Mindful journaling: Make tracking eating and activity meaningful and personal- add your thoughts and feelings. Add what you have discovered about yourself on a particular day to your journal. Keep a formal journal (blog) of your weight loss journey, if that is your style.

    Writing it is optional, but do pay attention to changes in your thinking, emotions, and behavior. This mindfulness will support and reward your efforts.

    Strive to be mindful about your weight loss.
    If you think it, if you believe it, you can do it!
