My Story:

At some point during high school I determined I was too fat and needed to lose weight. Haha, I was probably a perfect weight! I went on a diet consisting of eating very little and exercising no differently (moderately). When I did eat, I'd eat a small bag of chips or a few breadsticks or something else unhealthy. I'm 5'2" and I think I got as low as 90 lbs (way too skinny!) but still didn't feel adequate.

Eventually I began to get more healthy, well I was eating MORE which was good (can't say I knew what healthy meant), but then I went the other direction and I got up to 155 lbs which is way too much! I never thought I would be overweight because I was so used to being a size 0 (I'm a size 10 now!). I over-compensated a little too much to put it nicely.

This last summer (when I got up to 155 lbs and my doctor was telling me I was overweight and needed to change my habits) my mother came out to visit me for a couple months and we committed to jogging a couple of times a week. I skipped meals and continued my schedule of walking my dog twice a day for 30 minutes each and lost 15 lbs. Once summer ended I stopped jogging but continued walking my dog 30 mins a day.

Christmas 2008 I became sick and wasn't consuming calories like I usually do. I was 142 lbs. That's when I found SparkPeople and since then have lost 7 lbs. But I'm doing it differently this time. For the first time I'm not really trying to lose weight (well I am but it's not my main goal, just the strawberry on top (don't care for cherries)), I've made the decision to be healthy regardless of what the scale has to say about it. I'm taking baby steps to educate myself and eat healthy with smaller meals and eating more often. Who would've thought that eating more would mean you lose weight! At least it feels that way :)

This is the first time I've incorporated eating well with exercise. I've always exercised and eaten however I felt like with perhaps skipping a meal here or there. This doesn't mean I don't eat foods I like now because I still do (perhaps in moderation)! It just means I'm being more conscious of my intake and finding things I like to eat that help my goals instead of destroy them. So far it seems to be working well. I think a healthy weight would be 125 lbs. It kills me because at some point I was the right weight, but I didn't appreciate it when I had it and now don't remember when I did!

In any case, I'm looking to make LIFE CHANGES not just lose weight. With this goal I will make the weight goal I wish to have and this LIFE COMMITMENT will be easy to obtain because I took baby steps and could barely tell I made changes at all.

My fiancé and I are getting married July 2011 and I'd like to look good (and of course stay that way!) Perhaps a size 4? We'll see how that goes. I have time, thank goodness, but I don't want to waste it! I want to make sure this maintains and I teach my (future) step kids good habits!

Move more, eat less :)

But more specifically:

Fitness:

Kickboxing - 1.75 hours week

Walk the dogs - 30 mins a day (24 min mile)

Walk on lunch break - 2 hrs a week (17 min mile)

Nutrition:

Trying to plan my meals a week in advance (work in progress)

8 glasses of water a day (very hard on weekends)

5 meals a day
