Updating this in Feb 2017. I was able to keep my goal weight pretty much in check until, in late 2013, I moved to a 55+ Community filled with wonderful people who quickly became friends. Unfortunately, after moving in I developed Plantar Fasccitis and was unable to do much in the way of walking. Combine that with all the socializing that folks here do, (translate that to activities that always seem to culminate in a meal!) and I ended up gaining about 30 pounds. I began walking 4 miles a day with a neighbor and it did absolutely nothing to reduce my weight! Very disheartening! I had stopped tracking my food and have since decided that it is essential for me to do that to make me accountable. I lost about 6 pounds before I resumed tracking, and with the start of Lent, I decided to get back on track. I am now down 12 of those 30 pounds and decided to update my stats to reflect reality. The plan now is to get down to 169 once again which is about 18 more pounds. Recently found out that I need my other knee replaced, so maybe with the additional weight loss I can put that off for a bit longer than if I were still carrying the extra weight.
I travel a LOT and plan to do even more when I retire. I've decided that the bulge around my middle has GOT to go. I know I will enjoy travel much more if I am healthier and slimmer. I don't want any health issues holding me back from enjoying my retirement...
And now that I have retired(yeah!!) and have met my goal weight (yeahX2!!) I need to continue maintaining my new weight and possibly re-evaluate my goal weight a bit lower. For now, I want to maintain what I have accomplished so my new eating patterns become ingrained and all those pants I had taken in will still fit me! (See above for a sad but hopeful update!)

My Goals:
I want to get down to 169 pounds by the time I retire in Feb. 2011. I started off with SP at 209. I'd previously lost about 20 pounds after I had my knee replaced in 2008.
I reached goal weight Feb. 4, 2011!

My Program:
Track my foods using the SP program.

Research recipes that are tasty as well as healthy.

Despite the fact that I HATE to exercise, I will follow the SP recommendations of exercises, but limit my time to 10 minutes a day till I gain motivation to increase the time.

When out with friends, I will try to maintain my sense of portion size.

Personal Information:
I live in North Carolina after having spent 30 years in Southern California. I came from Chicago so I have good food roots. That can be a blessing or a curse! I love to eat and cook and can read a cookbook like a novel!

Other Information:
I love to cook, read, garden and most of all travel. I have 2 cats and used to have Irish Wolfhounds, which really miss having but my little house, and virtually no yard, precludes that pleasure, so it's just me and the kitties!

Well, you are one lucky woman, able to travel the world like that. And to be healthy enough to jump in freezing water and to zip line and ride those two-wheeled thingy's. I salute you for eating the grubs. Your positive spirit shines through in your pictures and in your words. emoticon

Thanks for adding more pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed looking through them. Here's a question that keeps popping into my head. How do you choose the places you visit? And what draws you to a specific destination? I truly am fascinated by your travels and adventures!

I hope you do post more pics. I'll be back to see them! I've never traveled much. When I was around 20 years old I had an opportunity to go with a school friend to the Bahamas for a few days. That was amazing. One day we set out in a little boat on the ocean, destination: deserted island. Sand and palm trees everywhere. Hammocks among the trees. Ocean so clear I could stand in it waist deep and still see my feet. Still today, when I need a happy place, I think about walking the beach near our hotel. It's evening, the sun is setting. Boats are silhouetted on the ocean. A breeze rustles through the palm leaves. I'm barefoot, digging my feet into the sand as it cools, and listening to the tide lapping the shore. I've always wanted to go to Queensland, though. Rain forest, coral reef and desert all in one area. Maybe some day...

I can imagine that keeping that church dome shiny would be a tremendous undertaking! With my fear of heights, I certainly wouldn't want that job, lol!

Ah, yes, that green colouring with copper. My father's childhood home had a copper covering over its front stoop. He told me he was waiting for years for that covering to turn green! Finally, when he took me to visit his family home years later, he was excited to see it had turned!
