Board Posts name is Mary Clark and I've been a member of Sparkpeople off and on for a couple of years. I love this site and find it to be very informative and supportive!

I have been on the roller coaster ride of yo-yo dieting for years and decided this year (2010) to drastically change my life by having gastric bypass surgery. My family including aunts, uncles, and 1st cousins, have a huge amount of kidney cancer, kidney disease...some resulting in death. Breast cancer is very prominent as well. Both of my parents when living were diabetic. So I felt that I didn't have another year to try to lose the weight before my weight came back to bite me in the butt. I'm basically very healthy except for my weight so I felt it was in my best interest to have this surgery. I have studied all of the weight loss surgeries for years so this was not a decision I made on a whim. It took me 3+ years to make the decision and I am so glad that I did. It has been the easiest surgery I've ever had. No nausea. I have really been blessed with my results so far. Now I basically eat like a diabetic but thank God I may have escaped actually having diabetes. God is good and I am so happy with my decision!
