Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple of quite biggies left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.
THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 70 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 46 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with a deteriorating spine due to spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis (arthritis of the spine) which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.
l also have psoriasis, Morton's neuroma and osteoarthritis in the middle toes of both feet, right ankle and knee, left shoulder and both wrists and thumbs plus gout in my toes and ankle...taken together the

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

    Martha,
I just wish I could come over and help you with your to-do list, except that I would probably just want to enjoy your garden. I always looks so inviting.
And would love to take one of those walks with your and your husband.

I am doing well - getting a bit more exercise - and walking. Still hurting some, but not as much.

July 2 my daughter, Kathi, and granddaughter, Jill will be going to Japan to visit my grandson, Jordon, who is in the Navy. Am so excited for them - will be such a good time for them.

I do not have any plans for the summer - except to enjoy our little space here. Love our back "yard" just above the river. And my knitting friends.

    Take care - love you,

I am not doing much this weekend -
Have a friend who is bringing me a couple of Oregon Grape starts Monday - so want to get the spot ready for them.
And need to plan menus for next week - we eat so much better when I plan.

How are you and you hubby doing?? Pray you are able to get out and do more. I know you have had a hard year - but hope you will be able to take some of those walks again. You seem to enjoy them so much - and I love all the pictures you post. Thank you for sharing.

    Best wishes and take care!!

I had a good visit with my friend Elaine yesterday - she has been such a blessing in my life.
And today is overcast and cooler - so will be home most of the day.
I picked up a couple of books at the library yesterday so will do some reading and need to do a load of laundry. Seems that laundry is never done.

I planted a few tulip bulbs last fall and they are beginning to peek out.
And the squirrels are active in the trees behind our apartment - love watching them scamper up and down the branches.

    Have a good day -

It has been a long time! Have missed you. Sorry to hear about your ills - but I know you are a fighter and will make find the best in life. And having a husband who supports you is a blessing.

I have not been on SparkPeople much recently - but am trying to get back "in the groove"!
We are out from under the snow and it is warming up - so Spring will soon be here. The crocus are blooming and the other spring flowers are peeking out.

I have been doing more knitting and a bit of sewing while snowed in - but is time to get out and about. Want to do more walking this summer - I do tend to sit too much.

Take care - oh, I do enjoy all the pictures you post of flickr - you do have an eye for catching nature in your photos!
