I joined Spark People in October 2006 because I had reached the point where I had to do something to bring my weight down. I am making slow, steady progress which is good.

About me: I retired from the University of Florida three years ago and I now live on the coast of Maine. I find it peaceful here and I love having four seasons again.

I share my home with my husband and two Siberian cats, who rule the roost. I have two sons and eight grandchildren, four girls and four boys.

November 2007: I'm over halfway to my weight goal. Living a healthy lifestyle is a work in progress but I do try to be mindful even when I am straying. That encourages me to return to the program.

September 2008: I lost motivation last November. I quit tracking food every day, although I tried to be mindful of what I was eating. Over time, the old habits crept back in. I have changed my background to red to remind myself that I am in a danger zone. I can re-commit or I can regret it. The choice is mine.

My Goals:
My major goal is to make a permanent life style change. I want to break the yo-yo habit that I have developed over the years. I know that it is not healthy for me. Besides, I don't like feeling badly about myself about every 10 years.

My Program:
I have decided to eat all foods but to eat in moderation. I will order a "sinful" dessert if I wish, but I will just have one or two small bites of it. I will try to eat certain foods, e.g., fried foods, rarely but I will not cut them out altogether. I will modify the rest of the day's diet to accommodate them.

    Well we moved to a new flat with stairs, so now I am back doing my favorite thing / running stairs;). I am up to 30 min every other day. Had to start our slow as the move made me loose around four weeks of exercise and I am just getting back into the swing of things. Hope things go well on your second operation.

    Woo hoo!!! I so need some support right now. I have so gotten off track in the last year, allowing my sweet addiction to take over and going up and down on the scales!!! Horrible!

    Let's do a mini challenge for the month of August, and see if we can't loose some weight together. I was taken off as administrator for our team due to absence, so I am not sure of how to send an email out alerting others.

    Thank you for the Spark Goodie! I think of you often, it is easy to do as I see your cabin every day, especially in the morning sunrises!
    today sure is beautiful isn't it! It is my day off, and a friend from Bangor is coming to visit for lunch.
