I've finally made it to the loser's bench! I had WLS on May 14, 2007 and started my journey to get my life back. At just 2 mos. post op I already know that the decision to have the surgery was the right one for me. To anyone considering WLS I would say: Do your research first. Learn as much as you can about the changes (physical, mental and emotional) that you will have to make FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Those who see this as a quick fix do not succeed. Make sure you have lots of support. Of course Sparkpeople is great for that! Make sure you have a knowledgeable surgeon who also offers education and supportive follow-up.

My Goals:
To get healthy and improve my quality of life.

To be around to see my precious niece grow up.

My Program:
To follow my surgeon's instructions to the letter. Most important are:

Drink at least 64 oz of water a day.

At least 60 grams of protein a day.

No more than 4 oz at any meal.

Take all my vitamins and supplements every day.

Move as much as possible!

Personal Information:
I live in Mobile, AL. I'll be 43 in April and I'm single. I have a 4 legged son named Bear. He is 7 mos. old and quite a handful. I have a wonderfully supportive family. Unfortunately they all live in TN. I have a niece who will be 4 in May who is the LIGHT OF MY LIFE! I have been overweight all my life. My most successful weigh loss was after going through in-patient treatment for eating disorders. I lost 140 lbs in 15 mos. Unfortunately I busted my knee exercising (ironic huh?), had to have surgery, couldn't exercise, got depressed and well you know the rest. All 140 lbs came back and brought some friends with them. In 2000 I was approved for WLS but this got put on the back burner when I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and had to have a complete hysterectomy at age 35.

Other Information:
I love to read, mainly psychological thrillers. If I could have made it through "basic training" I would have liked to have been a psychological profiler working the the BSU at the FBI. I may be almost 42 but I love my GameBoy Advanced and PSP, as well as PC games. My favorite game is "The Sims 2". I make beaded jewelry and have even had some on display/for sale in a bridal shop.

You've come a long way baby! Be patient with yourself and give your body time to heal. In even just a couple of weeks I bet you'll start feeling better and seeing some great results. I hope you're feeling better very soon Lee.
