Bellieve it or not, there are some normal people in L.A.. I'm one of them...sort of. I'm an average woman living in an un-average world of model-thin people!

Total weight lost thus far (4/18/08): 70 pounds (34 pounds with SparkPeople).

My Goals:
***133 October 15,2008

***Better sleep. (CHECKMARK! My sleep started to improve less than 3 weeks in.)

My Program:
***Before I eat something, ask myself, "What am I really hungry for?"

***Healthy foods: no preservatives, artificial ingredients, fake sweeteners, or ingredients that I can't pronounce. Given the choice between a fake ingredient and fat, I always take the fat. (In other words, eat like the typical French woman, not like the typical American woman. I love America but our diet is terrible!)

***A good balance of carbs, protein, fiber, and fat. I was on a low-fat diet when my thyroid crashed, and I was dead on low carb, so I'm not going there.

***Moderation, not deprivation! Nothing's banned except chemicals and corn long as it's an occasional, small, well-planned portion. (The 85/15 principle is my guide: 85% of the time, behave. 15% of the time, have fun within reason.)

***Using a small salad plate or bread plate instead of a dinner plate.

***A cup of hot lemon water before breakfast to detox and get in some C, plus another in the a

Personal Information:
This body doesn't reflect who I am at all. I just live in it. I weighed a healthy 114 lbs. when I got sick with a disease that crashed my thyroid. (What a nightmare, living in L.A...) After ballooning to 275 and many attempts to get my thyroid going again, I got it kickstarted and lost 50 pounds in a year. Then it stuck there. And stuck there. I lost motivation and 16 pounds crept back on. Make that came on with a vengance! I found SparkPeople and lurked around a little before actually starting a food program this time. When I was lurking I saw there's a thyroid group and a group of L.A. Spark people. This time, it's coming OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other Information:
Favorite rock star quote: "I'll eat a box of anything." (Jon Bon Jovi, on his love of cookies). I love this quote because it reminds me that even the guy with the best butt in rock and roll has to watch himself.

Currently Reading: A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle.

    Thanks for the words of encouragement! Your story sounds. . .well. . .crummy!! My mother had thyroid problems, so that is something that I grew up hearing (as my weight went up--"Maybe you should have your thyroid checked. . ."). And I see how that can REALLY affect weight gain/loss. You, however, sound like you are getting it under control again, and for that you deserve a big CONGRATULATIONS!! And look how close you are to being under the big 200! That was a milestone for me, and I can't wait to get farther and farther away--it looms too close! Keep up the good work! emoticon
