I teach English as a Second Language at Southern Utah University. I also enjoy gardening, music, reading, writing, and walking my dog. I am amazed at what a difference exercise has made for me. It has really helped me trim up, and kept me from getting depressed. My favorite exercises are walking/running and Callenetics. I like Callentics because it is almost like relaxing into fitness, and it is very gentle. As I have been seriously working on my cardio-exercise and sleeping better, my energy and mood levels have been rising. My dog, Shadow, is a great walking partner, and is really into this walk run thing, which is a great motivator for me. I have really been enjoying using the SparkPeople website.

*Lose five pounds at a time until I am to my goal of 145
* Work on keeping connected with my two daughters who are in two different cities
* Have more fun and work on cultivating some of my friendships
* Go to the temple every month
* Get my house in better order and work on maintaining it well

My Goals:
Lose 5 pounds by December 9; then go onto the next five and work on maintaining what I've lost. (Ultimately want to get to 145)

Succeed at the Better Sleep Challenge. Keep a streak going for at least one month beginning September 9, 2012

Work on keeping my Spirits up by taking the Stress busting challenge and regular exercise.

My motives to loose that weight:

Feel Better
Less Tired
More Energy
Keep my knees from hurting
Safe BMI and beyond
Fit into size 12
Surprise my daughters

I want to work towards being able to do 10 pushes from my toes and do at least one pull up.

    Like most old folks, I hand out great advice but I fail to take it. Life keeps getting in the way of my taking care of myself. I get up, go to work, and do what I need to do to achieve that. Anything else is accidental. I stay with sparkpeople to keep from gaining more weight and to stay focus on ME. Sometimes it is no so much staying on a diet, but not wander back to the old path that caused us to gain. Changing patterns take time and effort. But WE CAN DO IT!!!

    New England has tons of great light houses, all sizes and shapes. The one on my page is the Portland Head Lighthouse in Portland, Maine. New New York photo was taken several years ago. They are my son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren on a Central Park carriage ride. We love New York and feel very comfortable there. We try to go two or thee times a year. It is a fun city.

    I am in the Bookworm Group but don't visit it often enough. I usually have a bunch of books going at once. Right now I've been getting caught up on a bunch of the Romance writers that I follow. My son had to read The Great Gatsby for American Lit class and I picked that up - hard to believe that I never sat down to read it before. I have been enjoying it but am only 1/2 way done. I have several Baldacci books to read in my bookcase - One Summer, Sixth Man & Hell's Corner. I have to get going on these soon. My mom always gets me a new book or 2 for Christmas so I need to get caught up. What do you like to read? I see you are a writer - what do you write?

    Because of my rheumatoid arthritis, I use yogi because it is not active. It is more of a mobility thing for me. For active exercise, yogi can be the slow warm up or the cool down. It can be used inside during the winter months when exercise can be difficult to indulge in. Ten minutes in an office or small apartment area can relax and cause for an occupation other than food. It is good for relaxing before sleep when vigorous exercise would be bad. Yes, it is a philosophy that is to put you in tune with your body.
