On February 13, 2018, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and my glucose reading was dangerously high. I immediately made changes when I left the doctor's office with my diet and walking that night after work. I used to be very active on Sparkpeople years ago and due to some personal issues I stopped being active on the site.

I rejoined Sparkpeople the next day on February 14, 2018, and have worked to learn as much as I can about my condition, what caused it, my family history and genetics for being a candidate for becoming diabetic and how I can get this under control.

I was lucky that I found an incredible nutritionist who has helped me to trust my intuition & decisions.

The first few months I was extremely busy with tracking my nutrition and fitness, prepping all of my food, increasing my intake of water. It flew by so fast, but I made some incredible improvements and I became ready to continue making more improvements and setting up goals.

My original goal that I set up in February 2018 was to lose 50 pounds within the next 12 months. I met that goal at 6 months and lost all of the 50 pounds. I added another 20 pounds to lose over the next 6-months, which I have almost met this new goal in a couple of months.

I brought my A1C3 down to a normal (non-diabetic) level. My new health care provider allowed me to stop taking the Diabetic medication back in May that my original doctor insisted I take. I have been off the medication for 5 months and my numbers remain in a healthy, normal range. I feel in better control over my life, my body, my food intake and my determination to get and stay healthy!

My Goals:
Starting Goals as of February 14, 2018:
(1) Burn off 50 pounds over the next 12 months by February 2019 (Goal accomplished 8/11/18)
(2) Bring my blood sugar levels back into a normal range (Goal accomplished 5/6/18 and continues to stay in normal range)

Goals for August-November 2018:
(1) (Added August 2018) Burn off 20 additional pounds over the next 6 months by February 2019 (Goal accomplished December 2018)
(2) Continue keeping my daily glucose readings between 75-110
(3) Walk 5-6 days out of the week, minimum of 3-4 miles
(4) Continue keeping my average daily steps between 10,000-12,000, at least 5 days out of the week
(5) Continue participating in Zumba & Zumba SitFit Strength classes 2x per week
(6) Incorporate strength training 1-2 days per week at home, for 20-30 minutes each time (As of 1/10/2019, this goal has NOT been started, but have purchased resistance bands to begin training before end of January).

Goals for January 2019-April 2019:

My Program:
1) Burning more calories than what I am consuming
2) Walking an average of 10,000-12,000 steps daily
3) Drinking a gallon of water daily
4) Zumba classes and strength training
5) Adding strength and/or resistance training to regime 1-3 times per week

Other Information:
I am the lead singer and bass player in an original rock band (RHYTHM PUNCH). I enjoy being creative through music and art, including dancing. I currently take two (2) Zumba classes weekly - one that includes strength training and the other that is primarily cardio, as well as a belly dancing class each week. I have a packed and busy schedule, but it keeps me moving, which is one of the reasons I have been successful at losing the weight so much sooner than my original target date(s).

    The Biggest Loser goes for 10 weeks. It consists of 11 teams participating in weekly Fitness and Nutrition challenges. The Spring challenge will be getting started the beginning of March. It consists of fitness and nutrition challenges that are often in a form of a game. If for some reason you cannot do a challenge then they are modified to meet your needs. Often we do the challenge in a game form, we have BINGO and TIC TAC TOE or seasonally themed. For Winter we had Help Santa Fill His Sleigh, Run Rudolf Run and Super Bowl.
