My name is Holly ...
I am a 25 year old female looking to change my life. I am Canadian and I live in Vancouver BC. If anyone from Vancouver is reading this and you’re looking for a gym buddy or some support vice versa, feel free to email me. I love meeting new people!

So a piece of my story is this…

I have always had a strong interest in fitness, health and eating healthy. I use to be very active as I played soccer for m any years, took years of swimming and the list goes on. I remember seeing the scale say 118 lbs and I thought I was fat!!! I wish I could go back and smack myself for ever thinking that. Here I am now…sitting at staggering 215 lbs. I just sit here and shake my head as I write it out. I am only 5’1. I don’t want to say I have excuses for my weight but I have had a lot of tragedy in my life that didn’t exactly help. My father was murdered a few years ago, my sister passed away a couple years ago, my grandmother passed away a year ago. Its been tough, not going to lie. It might sound silly to some people but I would much rather deal with a weight problem due to stress, depression and issues that developed from the significant family tragedies verses becoming a person who struggles with drugs or alcohol instead. So in some sense, I feel proud that I was strong enough to get through these sad events. Aside from that, I found out I was hypothyroid in November 2010. It didn’t help. I was lazy, sluggish and tired all the time due to my untreated thyroid disorder. Its being treated now with medications so its all in order and my levels are perfect. I definitely feel a difference with that, so that’s good!

As far as trying to lose the weight; I have tried many things but fail to stick to it. I am an “all or nothing” kind of gal. I get frustrated easily and if I slip even the slightest, I beat myself up and I usually tend to just fall off track completely. I am currently trying the Dr Bernstein Diet. It is very structured and that’s just what I feel I need. You get a lot of support. You go in three times a week to do your weigh in and you get your vitamin shots when you go in as well. Some people don’t agree with the diet and some do. I will post my weight weekly every Friday…so if you care to see my progress. Please stop by my page!

How is your Dr B diet going? I have done the Dr B program twice. I went on it the first time after I became Prediabetic after baby #1 and lost 55lbs. I went off the diet to get pregnant with baby number 2 and ended up gaining weight back because I developed hypothyroidism post pregnancy. I then did the Dr B diet again and lost weight again. But unfortunately I have gained it back thanks to a bad car accident.

I loved being on Dr B. I appreciated the constant accountability and support. I felt light and energetic and l lost a lot of weight quickly and looked great. Truthfully, to date, it is the only program that worked for me.

Be careful though... I found two problems with this program... first, they won't let you go on maintenance until you reach your goal weight (my goal weight was very low). After 7-8 months of trying I developed a sort of diet fatigue and resented the inflexibility. As soon as I ever went off the program (I never did maintenance) I experienced the snap-back effect... where basically your body tries to regain as many calories as possible because you've come out of "starvation mode". (I would be ravenous and unstoppable.)

If you ever want to compare notes or chat about Dr B, just let me know! Good luck!

Hey beautiful! Well I wanted to stop by to see how things are going and to wish you a great weekend, but I see you've already gotten a great start to your weekend! Awesome news -- way to go hun!!!

If you havent started already, make sure you take progress pics! Even if you just keep them for yourself they're great to have to look back on, especially on days when you feel your motivation lacking. It's an instant "pick me up" to see just how far you've come.

    Keep it up girl!!
