My name is Holly ...
I am a 25 year old female looking to change my life. I am Canadian and I live in Vancouver BC. If anyone from Vancouver is reading this and you’re looking for a gym buddy or some support vice versa, feel free to email me. I love meeting new people!

So a piece of my story is this…

I have always had a strong interest in fitness, health and eating healthy. I use to be very active as I played soccer for m any years, took years of swimming and the list goes on. I remember seeing the scale say 118 lbs and I thought I was fat!!! I wish I could go back and smack myself for ever thinking that. Here I am now…sitting at staggering 215 lbs. I just sit here and shake my head as I write it out. I am only 5’1. I don’t want to say I have excuses for my weight but I have had a lot of tragedy in my life that didn’t exactly help. My father was murdered a few years ago, my sister passed away a couple years ago, my grandmother passed away a year ago. Its been tough, not going to lie. It might sound silly to some people but I would much rather deal with a weight problem due to stress, depression and issues that developed from the significant family tragedies verses becoming a person who struggles with drugs or alcohol instead. So in some sense, I feel proud that I was strong enough to get through these sad events. Aside from that, I found out I was hypothyroid in November 2010. It didn’t help. I was lazy, sluggish and tired all the time due to my untreated thyroid disorder. Its being treated now with medications so its all in order and my levels are perfect. I definitely feel a difference with that, so that’s good!

As far as trying to lose the weight; I have tried many things but fail to stick to it. I am an “all or nothing” kind of gal. I get frustrated easily and if I slip even the slightest, I beat myself up and I usually tend to just fall off track completely. I am currently trying the Dr Bernstein Diet. It is very structured and that’s just what I feel I need. You get a lot of support. You go in three times a week to do your weigh in and you get your vitamin shots when you go in as well. Some people don’t agree with the diet and some do. I will post my weight weekly every Friday…so if you care to see my progress. Please stop by my page!

Hola Holly! What's going on? You haven't updated your status in 76 days! Haven't heard from you in a while so I just wanted to see how Dr. B is going and how life has been in general. Hope to hear from you soon and hope all has been well on your end!

Holly WOOO CONGRATS on getting back into the 190's!! SO awesome girl!! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but my computer is DEAD and I've been shuttling back and forth to a friend's house the past week to check my mail and whatnot until my new computer arrives on Monday.

Anyway so glad everything is okay back at home and that you're still kicking a$$ with your diet!

Hey Holly, glad you are feeling better today! emoticon And congrats on getting into the 100's!!! emoticon
I understand what you mean about the hypothyroidism... I was freaked at first too. Especially after I read up on it on the internet! (Big mistake!!!) I find though, as long as I take my medication every day, I'm great! Don't feel any different.
I used to get cravings with Dr B too... I missed chocolate. emoticon My trick was to get a chocolate hazelnut or chocolate chai herbal tea (Stash makes them) with some sweetener. I would drink a cafe au lait sized cup of it (my husband joked it was a bucket!) but it seemed to fill me up and take care of the craving. Plus it counts as a water because it's herbal!

P.S. I don't have the $$ to do Dr B again (my benefits don't cover it any more), so I'm trying to do his diet on my own. I started on Monday and I'm already down 2.5lbs.

Hi Holly... I'm so sorry! Let me be clearer... after my second pregnancy, I couldn't lose my pregnancy weight because I didn't know that I had developed hypothyroidism post pregnancy. After I started back at Dr B they identified to me that I had hypothyroidism which was likely why I had problems losing my pregnancy weight. Once I started on meds for that, I did lose weight with Dr B. :)

But yes, at the end once I stopped Dr B, I found that my appetite was voracious and I gained some weight back. My doctor confirmed that a greatly increased appetite is not uncommon after being on a low calorie diet. So, you need to be careful if you do stop because you don't want a similar experience. Best to go on their maintenance plan first (if you can).

Didn't mean to scare you!!! Just wanted to warn you of the pitfalls of stopping before going on maintenance.
