My husband saw the Turbo Jam infomurcial on tv and purchased it. I was a bit irked because we already had a bunch of exercise videos that just took up space and were never used. When it arrived it just sat in the box unopened. Finally, curiousity got the best of me and I opened the box, read directions, took measurements and pushed play. I wasn't even really planning on doing it all but I loved it. It was a program that didn't hurt my joints to do. Soon I was up to an hour a day and was getting more and more motivated by it especially when I realized I was losing 1 lb and 1 inch a week from my chest, waist and hips each. I realized I could do this! I've now changed my diet and am eating cleaner, working out 1 hour each in the am and pm 6 days a week. I feel so much happier doing it and I have to make myself take a rest day because I look forward to my workouts.

This has also changed my family. Our common meals are healthier. My husband works out with me a few times a week and is working out on his own now. My children are getting more interested in fitness. It has become a family activity at times.

By my birthday I still hadn't reached my goal but was still headed in the right direction. I continue to work for better health and fitness but don't focus on the weight loss so much now. It is slow and if that would have been my only focus I may have given up on this journey a long time ago. I have realized so many other benefits to a healthier lifestyle. I have come to realize that although I would like to still be thinner, that my belly still hangs way to low, that my main gaol now is to be healthier and more fit.

I trained to climb to the top of Half Dome this summer in Yosemite, did a few hikes in the spring in preparation for that. This last one was a 7 mile round trip to the Vernal and Nevada Falls. 7 miles that includes hiking fit for billy goats. In the middle of July my son and I backpacked from Happy Isles to Little Yosemite Valley on one day, climbed Half Dome the next, backpacked the Panarama Trail to Glacier Point the next. I made it to the top!

Last year I trained for a triathlon. Just after I turned 45 I participate in this, my first ever triathlon. My 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter did it with me. My son and I completed the long coarse which consists of a 800 yard swim, a 24 mile bike ride and a 6 mile run. My 12 year old did the kids coarse which was a 200 yard swim, a 3 mile bike ride and a 1 mile run. Family fitness is awesome!

While training for this tri I felt better than I ever had before so I tried to continue on with my over active lifestyle. The end of November brought a hurdle that I am now still trying to overcome. While on my bike I was hit and run over by a truck. The lady driving didn't even stop. I have been blessed in that there were no broken bones where my leg should have been crushed but I have still had to deal with a painful injury. For months I wasn't allowed exercise. I finally healed enough that I could start working on a little exercise and build from there. I have concluded that my leg hurts whether I exercise it or not so I might as well give it reason to hurt with out making it scream at me. I have begun to push it a little but am no where near where I would like to be fitness wise and so far away from where I was last year.

If you would have told me I would have done any of this before SparkPeople I would have told you you were nuts. I would have told you that all though there was a desire for this my body just couldn't handle this. I would have told you I was just too old and you can't stop aging.

Now I believe with training and work I can do anything. I believe I am getting younger. I believe I am nuts for trying but also at the same time I feel so much more sane than ever.

My goals have been in 10% increments:
First 10% weight loss goal is to 165 Made April 11, 2008
The next goal was 150. Made Aug. 8, 2008
The next goal will be for 135.
The final goal will be for 125 and then to maintain.

My goals are still on hold due to the injury but I still try to eat healthy and exercise as much as my leg will allow.

My Goals:
My real goal is to get into a size 8. I don't know if that is realistically healthy after having children but if it is I'd like to reach that. I'd also like to be back to 125 which was a before children weight. If I had to choose between the two I'd go for the size because of muscle weight. I really want to be fit and healthy.

My Program:
I try to exercise daily by walking 3-5 miles minimum. I am trying to eat healthy whole and unprocessed foods. I'm keeping to the caleries that Sparkpeople have allotted me.

Personal Information:
I live in Northern California's central valley. I have a wonderful husband, a son and two daughters and a dog. I never had a weight problem until after I had my first child. The doctors even complained I didn't gain enough in pregnancy and told me I needed to be hitting McDonalds. I'd gain the last month and then when I'd breast feed. I worked hard to get it off after my first two but could never get it all off. Guess part of that comes in that my children are all 2 years apart in age. During my third pregnancy we had a lot of family traumas and in the 7th month of my pregnacy my dh was involved in a car accident that left him in the hospital for the better part of a month and learning to walk all over again due to his broken hip. After that I just didn't have time to try to exercise anymore and gave up on the idea and got use to the idea of being heavier than I had ever been and not being able to lose the weight. Now I see I can do this so I will do this!

I chose the dragon as my profile image because my weight, my eating and my fitness are the dragons I am trying to conquer.
