May 2018 Goals

1. Use my new system of portion control
2. Increase movement
3. Talk positively to myself at least one time a day
4. Establish a regular wake/sleep routine
5. Do 10+ minutes of exercise daily — stairs, walk, cleaning, PT
6. Drink lots of water
7. Continue to trust my God to help me get through the hard parts
8. Ultimate goal is to lose about 50-75 pounds.

I choose to be happy and find joy in every day living no matter what is going on in my life that day. It makes my spirit lighter. I'm always available for anyone who needs an encouraging word.

I am a retired registered nurse. Forced to retire due to a back injury. I'm a walking orthopedic miracle — metal rods, joints, etc. I don't heal easily or quickly. After the back injury, I fought hard for almost 3 years to get the mobility I have. I am utilizing dry needling now due to the ongoing mobility and pain issues. It has been incredible at releasing my pain which brought on many memories that caused nightmares and physical ailments. It' a good thing to happen. I am finally letting go of the physical pain and working on the PTSD memories.

Hubby learned to cook when I couldn't physically do anything but it was mostly frozen meals. We are getting away from that type of food as much as we can. I can't stand over a stove all day so we are having fun cooking together. I love fresh food with lots of flavors, especially southern and midwestern foods. No fancy ingredients or difficult recipes. My days of gourmet cooking and taking 2 days to prep for a meal by making my own pasta are behind me.

Of course, I have metabolic syndrome, plus some more conditions, and take medications that interfere with weight loss. I've tried losing weight for so long but kept slipping back. I'd diet a few days then get frustrated and eat desserts. I may as well have not dieted. Now I found my answer and am so glad. Lost 29 pounds in a month!

I don't want a diet. I want healthy practices to become a way of life and not a short-term solution. I am changing my emotional relationship with food. It's not my friend. My ultimate goal - I really just want to drop some medications, be healthier, and hope to increase mobility while decreasing chronic pain. Dry needling is helping A LOT.

I am blessed as I have a loving husband who treats me like a queen. He really does. Our children and 6 grandkids enjoy our company so we love spending time with them. God has blessed us with a close-knit family and I am forever grateful for that.

I vary in my activities depending on pain issues. I enjoy puzzles of all kinds from hidden objects, riddles, jigsaw, to word games. I crochet at times, want to start quilting again, read, watch a lot of TV (nothing else to do when I can't get around), and surf the internet. I play on the couch with my dogs.

We have 3 mini dachshunds — the heaviest is 10 pounds. Have an elderly tweenie dachshund that weighs 18 pounds, and a one-year-old German shepherd that weighs about 80 pounds. Our long haired doxie boy, Heinrich, is in love with the GSD. He is a little bigger than her head so it is funny. She loves him too and they cuddle all the time. We got her spayed as we don't want dachshund-shepherd puppies! I love my animals. They are our babies.

We have lived and traveled across the USA and in Europe so have wonderful memories of crazy times and daredevil activities as I liked danger when I was younger. Miss my disco days. My husband and I have always had great philosophical discussions. We are interested in world issues, politics, nature, and are still dating each other.

I utilize Apple computer software MacGourmet Deluxe to store recipes, meal plans and to create shopping lists. It also has nutritional counts. Anyone else use that software on a Mac? I haven't been using it for a long spell. Just not interested in thinking of food every day.

I welcome everyone to be friends with me. This is a tough journey to do alone. I used to spend most of my day on Spark but right now I am spending less time on Spark to work on me. I will pop in now and again to see how everyone is doing.
