I am 59 years old . Been married for 41 years
Yes to the same
I had polio when I as 4 and had my 5 th birthday in the hospital. Came through quite well.
In the early 1990's I started having a lot of problems and I just put it down to strained this and pulled that plus getting older. As the time passed WCB and the Doctors said that there was no reason why I could not work. There Doctor sent a report to my Doctor a saying I was at risk for Phycholgical distress .I felt like I was going crazy cause even a specialist said I would hurt but get better , go back to work no further testing needed.
I did so and in less then a month I could hardly walk and the pain was so bad.and the fatiuge was terrible
A new doctor sent me out to UBC hospital where they told me I had post polio.
what a relief I wasn't loosing my mind after all !!
I haven't worked since the end of 2003

Carol, how are things with you. It has been a long time since we have heard from you. I hope you are doing well. I am still struggling but at least have stopped going up! But I am in my power chair 99% of the time so it does slow things down! Do drop in and say Hi. Hugs, Betty

Carol, still thinking about you at Achieving success with determination. Hope you have been feeling well. I see you have been doing OK in the losing dept. May not be as fast as you'd like, but at least you are going down hill. I am resting at the top. I am not giving up, one of these days something will click and I'll get off the pounds that are keeping my legs and hips sore. Hugs, Betty

It sounds like you're doing really well. Your story's inspiring! One of my mom's aunts had polio and had a brace on her legs the rest of her life, and it was a long one. :D She was a happy person.

We live in a beautiful part of the world with so many places to go and get our exercise via walking or in other ways.

Keep up the good work and enjoy our neck of the woods! :D

Carol, about PPS, I started tripping and falling in my 50's. Had no idea at that time what might be the cause.. When we moved here to Sacramento I first heard of post polio syndrome, some one suggested I go to a meeting of survivors but I was not inerested, didn't think it applied to me!! I later went to some meetings and bought the book written by Dr, Bruno on PPS. But it was a ways from my house and I was a little depressed by those who had so much more wrong with them than I, at that time. Since I had not been paralized with it when I had it,(I did have to learn to walk again but that was it) I had no noticibly deformed limbs. Also since I was a "johnny come lately" I felt sort of left off, when I stayed to eat lunch with them. They all knew each other ahd chatted by themselves. Too bad people don't realize how rude they are acting. Now pain in knees and legs are the worst problem. And the fatigue. Are you able to do your house work? That bothers me a lot. Not a lot I can do. Hubby does not see the dirt etc. so it doesn't bother him. Seldom can afford any help so that is hard. Our daughter does some things for me, but the biggest thing is her taking me shopping. she can drive our van and put my chair in and out. OK, got a little lengthy! Hugs, Betty
