Six years ago I rescued a dog -not just any dog, but a Border Collie/Sheltie Mix who needed a job - thus began my agility career! I now have three dogs trialing or in training and spend all my money and time hangin with the pups! Not a bad deal!! I've met some wonderful people and dogs during that time. I've also discovered that I need to be a lot thinner to keep up! You would think three 1-hr classes a week and a trial nearly every weekend would do it - but it doesn't. I know I'm in better shape in some ways - I have more endurance, I can lift a 5 lb propane tank without thinking about, I can lug a folded wire crate or pull a cart full of "stuff", and I can haul an EZ-up around, but it isn't taking off the pounds!

I work a full time job, I spend my nights and weekends with my sport, I have to eat on the run (but rarely even go near fast food), and pack food for a trial. I need food that can be packed in a cooler, that doesn't need to be heat up (few microwaves in those grassy sometimes muddy fields), can work for both breakfast and lunch (we start very early in the AM), but can still help me lose weight and keep going! Suggestions welcome.

My Goals:
1. Get rid of that belly fat.
2. Run faster and run stronger
3. Learn to like the "good" stuff

My Program:
1. Eat a good breakfast - right now I'm working on perfecting a protein smoothy with FAXseed meal.
2. Avoid fast food, ice cream, cookies, chips - those high calorie, high salt things I love.
3. Move more but carefully so I don't reinjur cronic injuries.

Personal Information:
I'm a 55 yr old woman with dogs - what can I say. All are rescues working their hardest for me but I can't keep up. In a few years I want to retire and start traveling the country running in dog shows.

Other Information:
My reason for getting in shape:

Lucy - BC/Sheltie, my love, my heart - her favorite things are hanging with me and agility (and balls, balls, balls, balls). An excellent travel companion.

Gunner - Rat Terrier (with a tail), a rescue from Arkansa shelter who is starting his agilty career. Favorite things - tugs, running, food.

Myah - BC/GSD, from a local rescue, had four homes before we found each other. She's learn agility now and is a quick study. Favorite things - ripping the guts out of toys to remove the squeaky, defending the property.

Scooter - Pekingese, who doesn't see what all the fuss is about.

Gunner - Rat Terrier - one Q in NADAC, move over world, here comes the terrier
Myah - BC/GSD in Training
Scooter - Pekingese Couch Potato Champ

Wow, it sure is great to read all that you have accomplished with your little rescues! I also adopted a rescue, an american pit bull terrier who we named Zoe. We are just beginners in the field of agility, but I guess one must start somewhere. We just completed our first 6wk agility class and am looking forward to the next one that begins in September. I look forward to hearing all about your lessons learned, both on the field and in the fitness room. Good luck on your journey!

I just joined the Sac Spark team, and thought I would drop by to say hi. I am always amazed at the diversity of folks on these pages....what an exciting job/hobby/calling you have, working with the dogs the way you do! How are you doing with the weight loss?

First of all, bless you for doing rescue then having all that fun stuff for them to do! That makes you an angel in my book.

We have two things in common, we knit and we love our dogs. I've been in or with Tibetan Terriers for 18 years. We raise, show and train them or should I say they raise, train and order us around.

I remember being in Agility with our foundation male. He was nimble, quick as can be but had too much of a mind of his own. In the middle of a trial, he decided it was too warm for such a coated breed so he took a nap inside the silk parachute tunnel. Gasp. I was so embarrassed but that was that boy, he traveled to his own drummer.

I knit compulsively and obsessively because then I don't eat. I have so many WIPs it is embarrassing.

I wish you luck on the journey and look forward to reading your posts!
