Hello. My name is Karen and I wanted to get fit. But before I could start geting fit, I had to get real! I am obese. I am sick about it. I am 100 pounds overweight and think that if I don't lose weight now, I will be trapped in this body forever. Being trapped in this body is not an option. So here I am, making a change.

I want to put it all into perspective:

Thirteen years ago, in 1995, I met my son's father and weighed 158 pounds.

Twelve years ago, in 1996, right before I gave birth to my son, I weighed 198 pounds.

As of September 9, 2008, I weigh sixty six more pounds than on that day. I am one hundred pounds heavier than when I met my son's father!

OMG! How did this happen? Time. Age. Habit Changes. Influences. I strongly believe that when I gave up smoking cigarettes on January 23, 2000, it may have made my lungs healthier but I substituted cigarettes with food. Ten pounds became 20. Twenty became Forty. Forty became Sixty and so on. So here I am. Ready for the biggest and best change of my life. For my life!

I am extremely motivated by others and hope I can help other Spark Members to lose weight and meet their fitness goals. I appreciate all of my fellow SparkPeep's inspirational messages and I hope we can help each other make this wonderful change.

On Nov 1st, I will be walking in the American Heart Association Start! Walk at The Mall in Washington, DC.

Website: http://go.heart.org

The mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. That single purpose drives all they do. The need for their work is beyond question.

Cardiovascular disease is our nation’s No. 1 killer. Physical inactivity significantly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Seventy percent of Americans don’t get enough exercise, blaming lack of time and lack of motivation. Ignoring fitness and health increases chances for disease.

Start! is the American Heart Association’s national movement to get Americans walking. The movement focuses on walking as an activity because it’s accessible, free and has the lowest dropout rate of any exercise. Walking has many proven health benefits. In fact, adults may gain as much as two hours of
