This is my third time back to SparkPeople. I am not sure if that's good or bad! I was 53 when I started, now I am 58.

Talk about yo-yo weight gain and losses! I nearly achieved my first goal in time for my daughter's wedding. Then, as is natural, I slacked off a bit that winter.

Fortunately I had a walking buddy who pushed me to get out and walk in the spring! Hooray for walking buddies! JD I love you.

We almost hit our weight goals, and WE LOOKED MAHVELOUS! Great legs and tush, flat bellies and even some arm definition because we would stop and do push-ups on bench backs!

Then I got sidelined by a synovial cyst on my lower spine that caused me all kinds of problems. Eventually the cyst was, more or less, resolved and I ended up in PT to restore some flexibility and strenthen my core (the cyst was covering up a herniated disk as well!)

Of course, I had been flirting with arthritis in my left knee for some time, now it is even worse! I live on the second floor and let me tell you how many times I never went downstairs to get the mail because my knee protested the stairs! One more obstacle to overcome. I wear a kneecap stabilizer when it really acts up.

Those 3 day a week 4 mile walks and 7 on Saturdays are gone for me, at least for now.

Then a local hospital sponsored a Go Fit program with a free 3 month membership to either the Y or Curves. I picked the Y for the pool. After the 3 months, and a 10 pound weight loss, I joined for good at a reduced, unemployed scholarship rate. Again, success! Did not get to goal weight, but was on my way.

Suddenly, last February, I quit going. I sat down and craved carbs, the sweeter the better. I dont know why, I guess winter got to me.

In the last year, I have put on 40 pounds, weigh more than I ever though I could, broke and passed the 200 pound barrier! I am so astonished!

I was just told that all along there has been a second cyst very near my hip joint, which would account for the pain I have been having there. We will see what the doc decides to do about that, but it keeps me from walking or standing for too long.

So, here I am back at SP, motivated and determined. I have been getting back to the Y more often, not yet on a regular routine, but I will get there. I am turning my back on those sweet carbs, even though they call my name, and trying to eat more fruit and veg - and whole grain. Back to what worked for me before.

I am luckier than a lot of people that my health is still good, unluckier than some, but I try to stay positive about it all! I love the motivation that SP gives me to make each day a new day (and it doesnt hurt that Ive already dropped a couple pounds....).

So, here's to success, for all of us, however we define it! SP can help us get there. I know from experience.

My Goals:
I have a lot of goals, but we'll start with this one: I want to feel as good as I used to.

My Program:
My program, so far, has 3 parts:

1) Move MORE. I joined Curves, and as soon as the weather is stable, I plan to walk on the alternate days.

2) Eat BETTER. Get back to my healthy ways and leave the bad stuff behind.

3) Find FRIENDS. Here I am!

Hiya Jackie, welcome. I've made alot of friends here, and losing weight is sooo much easier when you have friends along for the ride. As for adding a friend, when you see their post on the boards, you click "my spark page" by their name or picture. Then when you get to their page up on the right side at the top you can add to your friends. Thats how you do it. Have fun. :)
