July 2010.

I've read so many inspirational Spark Pages that really go into detail about their individual journey and I wanted to make mine the same. I know I haven't lost much weight yet but I have come far in the mental aspect of it all. This week marks my one year anniversary of being part of SP. It's only been in the past 6-8 weeks that I've realized how life-changing this site really is. I would log in here and there and read some message boards but I never really utilized all the amazing tools until now. I'm a proud member of the "Done Being the Fat Girl" team and am where I'm at today in part because of their accountability, support and advice. So if you aren't already, become a Done girl TODAY!!

I've always been told that if you fail to plan you plan to fail. There is so much truth in that statement I can't even begin to tell you! I've had to really evaluate my life and figure out why I'm over weight. Just like Jillian on Biggest Loser talks about, if you don't get to the root of the problem, the weight will flood back on. So, I challenge you to get to know yourself a little better and find out what changes you need to make. I am here for you anytime!

I'm 25 years old and have always been self conscious of my body. I "blossomed" at a very young age and always thought I was strange. My body weight never exceeded 150 pounds until I graduated high school. I always had small friends (110-120 lbs while I was around 145) so I still thought I was "fat". I grew up with a family that doesn't eat healthy. My step mom hates vegetables and rarely had fresh fruit in the house. I ate whatever I wanted, in absurd quantities and stayed the same weight. The first year of college is when I started gaining weight, and a lot of it. I worked full time and went to school full time so I ate a lot of fast food. I worked at the mall and I remember drinking these coffee/milk shake things called "double trouble" (you'd think the name alone would be enough to keep me away)... They were over 1,000 calories not to mention all the fat and carbs. I had at least 2 a week. Thats just one example of the "bad" foods I started eating. I met my husband at that time as well and got "comfortable" with him. He would always tell me how beautiful I was and showed me physically that he was attracted to me so it didn't bother me that I had gained a little weight. Well, a little weight turned into a lot of weight and after 6 years I've maxed out at 205 pounds. On my 5'4 frame, that's BIG. Sure, over the years I would lose and regain 5-15 pounds but nothing lasted. UNTIL NOW...

Here's what I know so far:

*I have an addictive personality... FOOD IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE
*It is easier to turn to food to comfort me rather than dealing with the underlying issue, or trusting in God.
*You can seek advice and be told HOW and WHY to change, but until you get to the point where you are willing to do whatever it takes (hit rock bottom so to speak) no one can help you.
*There are people who want you to succeed and people who want you to fail. You have to be your own biggest support system.
*I DO have what it takes to make lasting lifestyle changes. Failing to plan and EXCUSES are all that is in my way!
*Food makes me happy, but it's a TEMPORARY fulfillment

So, what is a girl to do? Accountability!!! If you have people on board who support you, you are less likely to fail. My husband is standing right by my side. He knows of my goals and he actually helped me make the list of my weight loss rewards! He gets outside and exercises with me too. I have co-workers who know that I want to eat well and a lot of them are now wanting to get healthy also. We are all there for each other. Last but not least is Spark People! Even if you think you don't have anyone in your life who can help keep you accountable, I guarantee there are hundreds of friends here who WANT to be part of your journey. The human spirit is such an indomitable force. When we believe we can achieve, it is amazing where this journey can take us. We may not always win, but we are far better off trying and doing our best than never having the courage to start. Trust that others believe in you, even when it is difficult to believe in yourself. Do you believe you hold the power to change your life? Do you believe this journey is just a tad easier when others believe in you? Do you have what it takes to fulfill a dream?

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: ‘What! You, too? Thought I was the only one.’” (C.S. Lewis)

The times I've had the most success with weight loss is when I track what I eat. If you are mindlessly eating you have no clue the amount of calories you are consuming. It takes a little bit of time and effort but is worth it. You have to start off with small changes. Multiple times I have said "ok, I'm doing this!!" I would get motivated and stay on track for a week or two and then come to a crashing halt or "fall off the wagon". It was always because I tried to make too many changes at once. Baby steps! I know this time I will succeed. I am making small changes and sticking with them and before I know it I will be reaching my goals. You can too! God gives me the strength I need and I know that being healthy is pleasing to Him because my body is His temple.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path" -Proverbs 3:5-6

"When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit." -an encouragement given to me by a fellow DONE girl!

1. Thou shalt honor and believe in thy self.
2. Thou shalt move thy booty, move it and move it some more.
3. Thou shalt never go hungry again. Eat small meals and healthy snacks daily.
4. Thou shalt stock thy fridge with the right stuff. Fruits and veggies of the earth.
5. Thou shalt honestly write it down. If you bite it you must write it.
6. Thou shalt measure and weigh - thyself and thy food.
7. Thou shalt drink enough water to frighten Noah and map out all of the restrooms in the village.
8. Thou shalt not deny thyself a treat or two now and then.
9. Thou shalt not eat out of misery, boredom, anxiety... but should thou indulge, forgive thyself.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's plate.

This is God. Today I will be handling All of your problems for you . I do Not need your help. So, have a nice day.
I love you.

P.S. And, remember...
If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do NOT attempt to resolve it yourself! Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. I will get to it in MY TIME. All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours.

Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.

Now, you have a nice day.
