I read your comment on the article about "Redshirting" kids in K-5 and how when they start late, they thus are older in high school. That is the main reason I never had my children start late. In fact, my oldest son's BD is February 1, and we got him into a private pre-school at age 2 and by 4 he started K-5. He was already reading. He went on to public school and then to an IB-Program for high school where he was a National Merit Finalist. My other children went at regular times. My GD was born September 3rd, and our state has the cut off now at September 1st, so we sent her to a private school where their cut-off is Jan. 1st like it was back in 1954 when the school started. She did great there through 1st grade. We didn't want her starting high school Senior year at age 18. Like you say, that is an adult.
