"It couldn't be done"
Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.
FIRST... I want to thank everyone for adding me as a Sparks Friend and for all the comments on my page. I wish I had the time to answer each one individually... but alas... my hands are full, taking care of my DH who is not well and keeping up with everyday life. and clearing snow!!! Please don't think I'm ignoring you. I read every comment and I'm grateful. Thank you so much! You all help keep me going.

I'm writing this to myself. I need a constant reminder.

The following quote is from AA... with *...* words changed to relate to food rather than alcohol.
"The fact is that most people with *eating disorders*, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in *food*. Our so-called will power becomes practically nonexistent.

We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago.

We are WITHOUT DEFENSE against the FIRST BITE of *junk food*."
This really grabbed me! Wow! Such a parallel.

So, what's the solution? How do I get my "tiger" back in his cage, and KEEP HIM THERE!

How could I be restored to Sanity? Yes, I was insane! There's no way around it. I was Morbidly Obese, a physical/emotional/spiritual WRECK!

And yet, I continued to abuse myself with food. Nothing I had ever tried had worked. I ate things I didn't even like. And the more I ate, the sicker I became and the more weight I gained! (tell me that isn't crazy!) WHY do we do this to ourselves!?

One bite is too much, and a thousand are not enough!

I was never satisfied! Constantly hungry and riddled with self loathing and guilt.

...more to come...

Dec. 1, 2007 --

It slowly dawned on me ... Sober Alcoholics do not stop drinking! They just stop drinking Alcohol!

OK... I can't stop eating! BUT, I can stop eating sugar, bad fats and white flour.

But ... I've tried this before, a few times! and it didn't last! I was hungry, tired, depressed (with sporadic weight loss)... and couldn't wait to reach goal so that I could eat "normal" again.

Then, my sis called me and told me that she was going to start "Eating Healthy" I told her that I wasn't too impressed... but I would join her in her efforts and give it a try.

Little did I know!

My first major hurdle was eating breakfast. Just the thought gagged me. She suggested Slimfast. OK, I could handle a shake in the morning.

I have since discovered that our metabolisms "go to sleep" at night and don't "re-awaken" until our first meal the next day. SO! THAT'S why they say that breakfast is very important!!!

AHA! The first part of the puzzle! Keep the ol' metabolism cooking! Gotta burn up all this stored up, extra fat!

Then I thought that if I went very low or no FAT it would help.

Not so! I discovered that my body NEEDED a certain amount of "good" fats in order to process the rest of my good nutrients!

OK ... What the heck are "good fats"? More research was in order.

AHA! Peanut butter, sardines, Salmon, Olive oil, Soy, LEAN proteins!

OK ... What next?

Carbohydrates! Everyone knows that Carbs make you fat, right?

More research ... COMPLEX Carbs are VERY good for you. (and loaded with Fiber) Complex Carbs help to keep the Blood Sugar stable... without the spikes & crashes in my Blood Sugar, I'm NOT HUNGRY and my "Tiger" is caged! I also found with my research that Carbs are the ONLY fuel our brains can use. Nothing else!

to be continued...

Dec. 10, 2007 --

Wow! So much to learn!

Calories! I've heard for years... "Fewer Calories = bigger weight loss." Not necessarily... WHAT!? You mean I have to re-think that one? I thought that was "Basic".

So, what's the scoop? OK, if I go below 1200 Cals per day, my body goes into "Starvation Mode", my metabolism slows way down and the fat latches on with a vengeance.

(Read my Blog, below, regarding Fewer Calories!)

I should mention here, in case anyone else is reading this... if a person is 250 Lbs - 300 Lbs., or more, they need to eat MORE Calories to prevent their bodies from going into Starvation Mode.

When I started at 261 Lbs, I had to eat at least 1400 per day.

Well, I can certainly "force" myself to eat more! :-) That's never been a problem! :-)

To be continued ...
