    Thank you for the kind comment on my blog. We're doing the "Rock & Read 5k" in Sept. It benefits the Charlotte Meck. Library.

    I didn't do the "Rock-n-Run"...I am NOT a summer person emoticon and I really struggle with the heat so I'm holding off my racing until Sept.

    Pretty cool that a woman came in second over-all at the race, though, huh?
    And, from your blog post, I could tell you were excited to get first in your age group. emoticon again! When I shed my fluffy, candy-coating, I would love to get an award. emoticon Until then, I love cheering on my sparkfriends as they reach their goals! emoticon

    Maybe we'll get to meet at a race in the future...that would be fun! emoticon

    I've really liked the FIRST program so far. I haven't used it to train for a marathon yet, but I've used it for the half and 15k. The book (Run Less, Run faster) actually has plans laid out for each of the qualifying times for Boston. I'm thinking about using that plan for a late winter marathon.

    thanx for the comment on my page! That BQ had been my goal for quite some time...it definitely WAS NOT EASY. I learned so much in the process and in the end...I finally hit my goal! As for advice - I think everyone is different - but for me...a negative split marathon was an absolute must. The first 20 miles of the race were pretty easy...even 20-23 was ok...of course the last 3 miles were pure torture to hang on!...but once I knew I had it - that was enough motivation to keep going! I assume you're doing speedwork and MP runs? That was also key for me. And I also did a few long runs much faster than most recommend. Again - I know that doesn't work for everyone, but I had to run at least one of my long runs AT goal pace in order to feel comfortable with doing it on race day. Otherwise, even just incorporating part of some of your long runs (preferably in the middle of end of the run) at goal pace is beneficial. So when's the next marathon?

    Yes Gail, I understand. After the Thunder Road Marathon in 2007 (my 7th) I said the same thing. I got really sick on the course. However, I wanted to break 4 hours and to do that, I had to get back on it and run another. I have a love/hate relationship with the marathon. Hee Hee!
