"Do, or do not. There is no try." ~ Jedi Master Yoda "A commitment is a promise that you stick with, no matter what." Dr Joel Fuhrman, Eat to Live pg. 10 “It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop." Confucius 3-20-2010: My sis-in-law showed me the way to "Eat to Live." I decided to get on sparkpeople so she and I can stay connected. My heaviest weight was 240lbs as of March 8th, 2010 and I was wearing a size 18 pants. 9-16-2010: Six months have passed since I signed up for spark and wrote that little blurb above. Things have changed so much for my hubby and I since we started Eat to Live. Together we have lost over 120 pounds. So far he is down 2 pant sizes, I am down 5, from an 18 to an 8! Of course the weight loss is very rewarding and noticeable, but the thing that excites me the most and keeps me going with this way of life is for my health. Before starting E2L, I felt scared about my future. I felt out of control, and I had honestly given up on myself. I had resigned myself to the fact that I was just born to be fat. I have been chubby my whole life. I had a big ol' butt that people would actually comment on the size of. For some reason my gal-pals thought it was a great target for spanking. If this opportunity to regain my health hadn't come when it did, who know's where I'd be now, in a year, or in 10 years. Diabetes? Heart Disease? Cancer? No thank you! I was scared to go to the doctor. I didn't want them to weigh me, I didn't want them to tell me I needed to lose weight. I didn't want to find out that there was something WRONG with me. At this point, I feel like I am reclaiming my health. I have so much energy now! In March I was pretty much completely sedentary, aside for the occasional easy/slow hike which would leave me sore and winded. I started walking, and then running. Now I am up to a 10 minute mile and can run 5+ miles without stopping. I can see muscle definition where I NEVER have before. I can feel my abs emerging. I can't wait to see what I look like in a bikini next summer. I know now that I am doing everything I can to prevent disease. I eat massive quantities of fruits and veggies every day, I exercise regularly, and I finally quit smoking cigarettes on 9/5/2010 after 17 years of addiction. Life is good! 11/25/2010 I ran my first 10K race! The Clark County Turkey Trot was an awesome event. My hubby and I felt really good about participating. It was so much fun, and I really think it helped set a healthy tone for the day. AWESOME! It is our new family tradition! 1/23/2011 I made it to my goal of losing 90 pounds, and I did it almost 3 months earlier than planned!!! Now to get nice and lean and toned!!! Looking forward to bathing suit season!!! 3/8/11~ 1 year on Eat to Live!! Hubby and I are feeling great! True health and disease prevention are the true reward, but it feels good to be in a size 6!!! (DOWN FROM AN 18!!!!!) Here we are, May 2020! What a trip!! I’ll tell you there have been lots of ups and downs over the last decade, but I never went back to my old mindset. I kept that empowered essence with me over the last decade and have continuously strived to make my life as awesome as I dare dream! I was almost 30 when I signed up for spark people.. now I am almost 40 and I honestly feel younger, happier, and more energetic than ever. I definitely credit my dedication to plant-based eating and yoga therapy as the two indispensable tools that got me through the tough times. Since my last update I left my marriage, bought a sailboat, and now live an empowered life on the river as an avid boater and member of a cool off grid boating community. Maybe I’ll blog a little about my journey soon. Thanks for stopping by!
