Sparks and everyone that participates on this site have become a shinning point in my life. I've been waiting for years to find just the right tools to help me get healthy and I had reached a "now or never" point when a friend told me about Sparkpeople.

My life is filled with taking care of my family and work (which is a 2nd family to me). It leaves little space for "me time." The Spark program has forced me to look for this time and my supportive family has enabled me to find this time.

My husband and I have been together for almost 7 years. He is my best friend and my biggest cheerleader. He is disabled and doesn't work outside the house now, but before we met he was an executive fine dining chef. Which is such a blessing because I hate cooking! He tells me everyday how proud he is of me and the work I'm doing to get healthy.

My husband and I have 5 kids between the two of us, his four are in their early 20's and just trying to start their own lives. They have given us four wonderful, delightful, incredible, high-energy grand kids - all currently under 3 years! We babysit two at a time, at least once a week. My daughter is wonderful herself - she is a 10th grade honors student, taking a very heavy course load and completly focused on her road to college. She loves her niece and nephews and pitches in constantly.

I work at a small independent school that teaches preschool through eighth grade. I take care of the "front office" duties, which has me doing everything from making signs for a play, providing bandages and emergency lunches, typing the weekly newsletter to stepping into a classroom when we need a sub for an hour or two. The people at school have become a 2nd family to me over the 9 years I've been there and they all tell me how proud they are of the progress I've made with sparks.

My challenges aren't really portion size, but junk food. I love my junk food. And exercise, before sparks, exercise consisted of walking around the grocery store once a week - that sounds horrible, but it is probably close to being true. I have a mild case of lupus, but it still affects my life daily. Most days by time I get home from work I am too exhausted to do anything but eat dinner and fall asleep. A flare up has been known to put me in bed for three days. I'm fortunate that I have a mild case, because more severe cases have destroyed organs and killed. I've been struggling with and learning about, this disease for 5 years now and I feel that I finally have enough of a handle on it to start improving my health. Loosing the weight, exercising more, and the emotional support that I get from Sparks and my family, will all go a long way in fighting this disease. My goal is to be 100 lbs lighter by my daughters graduation in June 2008. I want her to be as proud of me as I'm going to be of her.

My Goals:
I've put off dieting for a long time and now I'm ready! My goal is to improve my health, be happy when I look in my closet & say "what do I have to wear today" and most importantly be able to keep up with my teenager walking around the mall & my grandkids running around the house!

My Program:
I have quite a few on-going health challenges, so I'm starting slowly. Working on the diet first off and 15 minutes of light exercising - just to get my body moving again.

Personal Information:
I live in Michigan and have 5 kids, 4 grandkids and an incredible, supportive man who does everything he can to help me reach my goals. What more could I ask for and how could I not do this for myself and for them.

Other Information:
I love to read and craft, mostly scrapbookking. I work at a wonderful small school, with people who are like family to me. With the start of the new year almost everyone is on a diet. My initial thoughts were to keep my dieting to myself, but once I found Spark I couldn't. I was so excited, I've told everyone that will listen!
