I'm in my 60's, single, work in IT and have had problems with my weight since I was 10. I would love to be a Spark success story, but I'm not.

None of my previous attempts worked. But the kilos have been flying off since I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. The first 5 kilos came off before the operation and in hospital, where a high output ileostomy and resulting fasts took it off. Probably also loss of muscle. Since the beginning of June I've lost another 4 kilos just by thoroughly chewing my food and therefore eating less. But the ileostomy, with fairly high output, may also be a reason.

But I feel great and look much better with the weight loss, so I would like to try for more.

6 June 2016: Once more into the breech
The weight is creeping up, the joints are beginning to complain. I intend to lose 10% of my body weight, and am going to follow a 5:2 eating plan.

4 Sep 2013: Take Action
I'm a procrastinator, and am mostly happy to chug along and take things as they come. But for some things, that's a bad strategy. It's time to do instead of be.

1 Jan 2012: Mindfullness
Since I signed up in 2007, my only success has been to make exercise a part of my life. I don't undervalue that. I suspect that fitness may be even more important than weight to our overall health and feeling of well-being. I didn't make my 2011 goals so I'd like to reframe them into a single word:

Mindfullness

Be mindful when I eat. Taste. Enjoy. Stop.
Set the table in the evening. Treat myself as I would others.
Notice how much better I feel when I am lighter, and more fit.

1 Jan 2011:
I asked a colleague at work to be my fitness buddy in 2008, and since then I exercise between 2 and 7 times a week. We are lucky to have a tiny gym and a fitness trainer in twice a week, so I'm able to exercise in my lunch hour or after work. But without my buddy and the strength training classes given by the trainer, I wouldn't have done it. In those 2 years, I've lost a few pounds and gained strength, but most of all, I look and feel better.
For 2011, my goal is to improve my eating behavior and get below 100 kilos and to improve my fitness even more.

For June 2016:
Weigh: 108
Walk: 30 minutes every day

Set the table and take time for evening meals
Eat mostly vegetarian meals


My Program:
Healthy food choices within recommended calorie ranges.
2 x week Body Pump 30 minutes for strength
3 week walk for 30-40 minutes
1-2 x week walk/run 6 k



Personal Information:
I'm single, no kids, and have lived in the Netherlands since 1998. I grew up in Canada and call both Amsterdam and Canada home.
I studied music and library science.

    I love that I have come to Barbara's Home Page! Thanks for the visit. I am trying so hard to fit in some healthy sparking to keep me focussed. Last year was very hectic and everything took a back seat to school. Fortunately, my health was maintained (I had perfect attendance!) but, I would like to be less exhausted this upcoming year. I'm glad that you are still around to touch base with. It's nice to have your support. I hope that I can return the favor in the upcoming days.
