Like many, I am no stranger to the world of weight loss or yoyo dieting for that matter. I began my quest to health and fitness in January of 2004 when my father suffered a heart attack and I realized if I did not change something about my life, it could have been me up there on that operating table. That and the fact remained that I had tendencies to hide behind my weight simply for the fact that I didn't want to get close to people.

Finally I realized it was time to stop hiding behind it and to stop using it as an excuse. For the first time in my history, I wanted to undertake this challenge for me and no one else. And in those years since, it has been a challenge. Filled with some successes and also defeats.

Lets start with the positives. I succeeded in losing weight. I went from over 300 pounds down to about 180. I exercised and ate cleanly. I ran a marathon and walked numerous half marathons. And managed to keep off the majority of that weight loss for several years.

That was until age and medical conditions started to plague me and my life became that of a sedentary lifestyle which ticked into not just months but years. That coupled with a hysterectomy, surgery in 2015 and medication (hormones!) caused further problems. The weight piled back on and as a result I was only 40 pounds from where I had been pre-2004. To combat pain and get my health in order, my OBGYN put me on a gluten / soy / dairy free lifestyle in October of 2017.

The weight I had put back on over the years started to come off. I started to feel like my old self, and realized I can potentially live a life without pain. But furthermore, something actually clicked in me when I started this new eating lifestyle. Whereas in my past weight loss cycles I looked forward to my cheat days, the reality is this time I had no desire to return to the way I was. I still have a long way to go but mentally I’m in better shape to lose weight than I was even back in 20014 when I succeeded.

If there is one thing I know and that keeps me going it is what I can accomplish. With my perseverance and heart - I WILL SUCCEED.

My Goals:
My goals are to continue on my quest to health and fitness and I would eventually like to compete in and finish a triathlon. I completed my first full marathon in 2006 and several half marathons. That is in the long term goal. In the near term I would like to reestablish my habits of long distance walking and hiking.


My Program:
I am on a gluten / soy and dairy free lifestyle while also participating in Weight Watchers online. Ironically I found a lot of its core beliefs mirror my own. And that is making healthier eating decisions and working out. In short, eating less and moving more.
