Hi!
My name is Desiree. I am an office assistant on Cape Cod, MA. I want to improve my eating habits, start exercising regularly and make changes for a more healthy lifestyle before I turn 30 to reduce my risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes and improve my energy levels and quality of life. I have spent my entire life neglecting my body, feeding it junk, not exercising and taking this amazing machine for granted and it is time that it stopped.

Right now, I am 188 lbs at 5'6" and I wear large tops and size 12 bottoms. My highest weight was 193, my lowest since I reached adulthood was 126 (size 6). I'm aiming for 135 to 145 as that was recommended as a healthy weight on this site and others. When I drop below 130, I feel weak and sickly and once I get above 150, I feel lethargic and unattractive.

I spent 3.5 years in the Navy and was able to maintain my weight in that range due to restrictions on when and what I could eat and mandatory PT (physical training), but now that I'm a civilian again, I packed on 40 lbs in 2.5 years.

I plan on incorporating at least 30 minutes of exercise each day on average (3.5 h/wk) and would like to start walking 10 miles per week and using videos on days when the weather is too poor to walk. I plan on increasing my activity level as my weight drops and would like to try new activities as my confidence grows.

I feel that the diet changes will be where I have more problems. I tend to eat out a lot, eat unhealthy packaged foods at the end of a long day at work b/c it's quicker, or cook something that isn't very healthy b/c I really don't know how to cook or have recipes for foods that are good for me. I plan to keep a food journal to keep myself accountable. I used one before and lost 30 lbs. Another challenge I face, is the fact that I cook only for myself and tend to have leftovers that sit around until I toss them out of boredom.

I guess that's a good opening, sorry it was a bit lengthy. I wish everyone success with their goals and look forward to getting to know you and working together toward making 2010 a happy, healthy new year.

My Goals:
My ultimate goal is a loss of 58lbs to bring my weight from 193 to 135.
If I achieve the range of 135-145, however, I will be happy.
I want to be able to maintain my weight in that range for the rest of my life.
I want to make healthy eating and exercise a lifestyle instead of a punishment and be a good example to my family, friends and future children.

My Program:
daily exercise even if it is just taking a brief walk.
find a balance of cardio, strength and stretching.
replace soda with diet soda, crystal light, water, unsweetened iced tea and small portions of no-sugar-added 100% juice.
reduce portion sizes.
substitute whole grains for white processed grains.
increase fruits and veggies, lowfat dairy, and lean protein.
reduce processed pkgd foods.

Welcome to the Couch to 5k running group!!!! Stop by the message board and introduce yourself to the team. On the team page you will find a thread for each training week. Click on week one and post were you are at in your training. This is a great way to meet others who are in the same phase of training as you. Some of my best friends were in my training week one and we worked through the program together sharing victories, questions, comments, and ideas. I look forward to learning more about you. I will be popping in on the Weeks 1 - 3 training to help answer any questions that might pop up and to cheer you on to your goals! Be blessed! Be a runner!

Hi Desiree, looks like we have similar goals. I started out at 198 and have a goal of 140-148. I just turned 30 and that's what scared me into losing weight. Congrats on your weight loss so far, looks like you have really made some progress!

Congrats on all you've accomplished! I really like how specific you are about the rewards you're going to give yourself for each 5% weight loss. I'm going to copy that. emoticon
