Hello, my name is Dawn. I am learning to get healthy, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

I have bipolar disorder and am disabled. So each day brings challenges my way. But the Lord is my strength!

I have been over weight most my life and am tired of it! I want to get healthy. My weight is so bad that I have problems moving around, so exercising is really rough at times. I am a sweets-aholic but am weaning myself off of them. I don't care for sweeteners like equal and sweet-n-low. I am trying to get used to Splenda but that is slow going. I don't mind baked goods with splenda but to use it in my coffee or in my cappuccino is difficult.

I am looking forward to making new friends and getting ideas and help with this journey! With God's help I will get healthy!

"For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and pray to Me and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you" declares the Lord...
(Jeremiah 29:11-14a)

"Commit to the LORD whatever you do; and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3

Update October 10. 2009

I have almost conquered the sweets! I eat light yogurt or sweet fruit like apples and peaches instead of sugary junk food. The only real sugar I use now is in my coffee, but my coffee intake has lowered quite a bit too. I am also doing pretty good with the emotional eating. If I'm bored I try to find something to concentrate on other than food and if I'm stressed I pray and ask God for the strength and help. I'm still working on the grumpy part. It's a slow go but it's a goin'!

Now that my sweets intake has gone way down I am hoping my weight ticker will start going down instead of up!

Update: Feb. 2010

I have conquered my sweets addiction! I still crave them but I have found low sugar protein bars that fill that void. I feel I am doing well. I'm to the point that if I do eat sweets I get sick from them. This is a good thing because I won't be able to have sweets after WLS.

I am exercising 4 days per week. I ride my exercise bike 20 minutes a day. I am working my way up to 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. It is slow going but I'm pluggin' along. Since Nov. 17th I have lost 12 pounds and am excited to keep going!

I meet with my dietitian every 2 weeks. One goal that I struggle to meet is losing 2 pounds every 2 weeks. But I have made it every time so far.

I thank God everyday for the strength He gives me to keep going and work hard.

I pray for this site and for the people here daily.

    A Godly Woman

    A woman of beauty
    A woman of grace
    A woman of excellence
    Beholding God's face

    She walks with the Lord
    With integrity
    Knowing her purpose
    And destiny

    No matter what happens
    She walks in God's love
    Reflecting the beauty
    Of her Father above

I just read a cure for bad Mondays!

It said that when you're feeling groggy or foggy to sniff ground
sage for an energy boost. Research showed that sage aroma
suppresses the enzyme acetylcholinesterase that prevents the
brain's ability to feel alert and happy! Not only that, but aromatherapy
experts say sage can improve mental focus AND memory!

My personal suggestion is...fresh ground or a good brand of coarse
ground sage. The cheap stuff is very offensive to my nose.

Have a great week and remember to stay focused!

emoticon Hello again, I'm back to see how you are doing and to let you know I'm thinking of you.

    Here's my tip for today:
You can't be happy all of the time; but you can focus your thoughts on happy things such as family, friends, job, hobbies, or whatever you find important.

Sparkpeople has a great selection of positive articles and comments, here's one of my favorites: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/quotes
I hope you have a really great week!

Hi, it's been a while since I've stopped by your page to check on you so I thought I'd take a quick moment; how are things going for you?

I read somewhere that one lady stacked empty butter cartons on top of each other as she lost the weight so that she could see what it looked like. Now I picture every pound of my excess weight as a brick of butter; which is also pure fat. So any weight I lose, I mentally stack in the corner of my mind to remind me what it looks like.

Hey... Keep reminding yourself how hard you worked and that you deserve to lose for your efforts; and by all means, keep on keeping on!

    emoticon Hi !
It's December already; can you believe it? November and December are the busiest months for me (besides July and August and September!) It seems the Holidays bring our friends and families closer and we spend more time visiting, and entertaining during these two months than any others; lots of Holiday preparation going too!

I find that I don't often get an opportunity to get around to Sparkpeople as much, but I try to stay focused as much as possible. Sometimes my good friend Will Power (who is always a welcome guest) doesn't show up until 'after' dinner, but I'm working on that as well.

I hope things are going well for you and you don't find yourself too busy to take care of yourself. You are the most important person in your life!

    Keep in touch!
