Hi there! Sorry to hear you have back problems, too :( No fun! I have found ways to modify a lot of things - but darn core work is tough! Crunches or anything that cause rounding or bending of the back are limited - but I was surprised to find even things like laying on back, and lifting my legs or doing scissor kicks was painless while doing, but then as soon as I tried to get up, would get gripped in nerve pain. Plank so far seems to be the one core-building exercise I've found that doesn't hurt my poor little L5-S1. I'd love to hear if you have some other ideas!

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I had WLS surgery in September, 2011 and have pretty much just stuck with lower calorie / higher protein / less carb eating plan, plus I started running and now put in on average 10 miles per week, in addition to 2-3 day of strength training. The one thing I gave up: beer! And in spite of my worries that I'd miss it, I don't!

Appreciate the comment on my blog. Yes, it is definitely difficult. Not alot of people understand the difficulties that come with being addicted to something. But all in all, at least I keep trying. Have an awesome day!
    :)
