Hi! Congratulations on finding Sparkpeople, it's a great site! (I can't imagine how people ever used to lose weight and take on big goals like these without the internet for sites like this!)

I have a suggestion for your weightloss if you don't mind me making one. 124 lbs is a really daunting amount of weight to lose (to say the least!), what about making smaller goals to start off? Tell yourself all you have to do is lose 10 lbs. Commit your next month or so to doing everything you can to weight 260, then once you hit the goal celebrate! (and pick up a 10 lb weight and marvel at that great accomplishment!) I personally find it much easier to work in small increments (and be okay with some re-gaining, cuz we always gain here and there before we lose it all!) Just something to think about, cuz going to your highschool reunion at 260 lbs (or 262, or 259) is better than 270 (not to mention for you health!)
    Good luck!!
    ...and happy new year!

I have been skinny until the age of 25. I had to work at it sometimes, but my weight only fluctuated about 10 lbs. Then for some reason I began to gain wieght rapidly in a very short time. In 1995 I went from 136 to 190 in about 6 months. Wow. That was not pleasant. Before I knew it I was solidly in the plus size section. Then it tappered off a bit. I have gained and lost wieght since then, but the climb on the scale slowed down some. 2007 was the first year in 6 years that my wieght actually went down a little. That was a miracle.

You name a diet, no matter how remote, and I have tried it most likely in the last decade. I now can honestly say that it isn't the diets that have failed it has been my motivation! Plus, by focusing on how far I have to go to get to my goal wieght the hill seems like a mountain! I end up just giving up too often.

What is different this time? I don't know yet. Is it the possibility of showing up to my high school reunion weighing over 125 pounds more than I did when I graduated? Maybe. My mom is battling diabetes and heart conditions just past her 64th birthday? Maybe.

I think this Spark People thing has a shot at helping my motivation! I have many reasons to do this - but the health issues are just going to get worse if I do not stick to this and lose the wieght. Once it is lost and I am 136 it will still be a new experience to keep it off. What a great adventure this will be! I am actually excited this time about doing this. That is a first!
