I'm Amanda, 27 years old, a lifelong East Coast girl now living in California! I've struggled with my weight as long as I can remember, but I never managed to lose more than the same 5-10 pounds. I joined SparkPeople a couple years ago, but I didn't get serious about changing my life until January 23, 2010. I originally set out to lose the weight for my wedding in August 2010, but it has become so much more than that! I want to be fit and healthy for the rest of my life.

Here are some things that I've discovered so far that have enabled me to lose weight and get healthier:

1.) There is no mystery to weight loss. It's not something that only some magical people can do. I can do it, and so can you!

2.) DENIAL IS UNACCEPTABLE! My body does NOT "like" being 160, 150, or 140 pounds. I DID just eat that cookie, and now I am going to track it, even if it means I went over my calorie range for the day. You get the idea!

3.) If you do what's best for YOU, you will stick with it and succeed. Do you prefer Zumba to running? Then go to Zumba! Does low-carb make you want to eat everything in sight? Then don't put yourself through that!

4.) Planning and researching what you will eat is always worth the time. Knowledge is power! Failing to plan is planning to fail.

5.) "Clean" food is better than processed food, even if the calories are the same.

6.) You don't have to be athletic or coordinated to be fit. I've never been either of those things, but I can run, I can lift weights, and I can handle a Jillian Michaels beating. And so can you!!

I'm a bit of a nomad these days.

Fitness Minutes: 65,382

My Goals:
Starting Weight: 159 (28.2 BMI)

Goal Weight: 130 (22.7 BMI)

I'm 5'3". My original goal was 135, but I moved it down to 130. That would mean 35 pounds gone from my all-time high of 165! I'd like to maintain between 128-133.

My Program:
I'm doing at least 45 minutes of cardio/ST, 5-6 days a week.. I love Zumba and Jillian Michaels DVDs (Body Revolution, NMTZ, BFBM, 30 Day Shred, Last Chance Workout, etc.) I've also dabbled in running, though I wouldn't say I love it.

I'm tracking my calories, aiming for 1200-1500 per day with a significant part of that from protein.

Personal Information:
I'm a professional singer, so getting fit and healthy will help me in many aspects of my life! :)

Other Information:
I married my best friend on August 28, 2010!

    Hey lady yourself!

    So glad to hear you're doing well and finding some balance. Balance is such a relief! I've got a few friends who use myFitnessPal too, it works pretty much the same way as Spark, right? :)

    I think I've found balance too, although I'm still getting used to the feeling that it's okay to relax, that it's not laziness, it's a conscious choice. I'm being a little more relaxed than you are - I'm 10 lbs over my lowest weight (which wasn't terribly low to begin with), eating what I want, and working out two to four times a week - although that level of exercise really IS laziness, and I'm trying to be better at that. Trying to do yoga a few times a week and run a few times a week... I really should get back into weights, but I'm not feeling terribly motivated. Hopefully regular yoga will fulfill some of my strength training requirements.
