I had planned on doing a sprint and an Olympic length triathlon this summer, but that was not possible. I would like to renew that goal for next summer, so I am focusing on establishing a good base this winter.


I joined sparkpeople 2 years ago, but didn't really use it. I have my own computer now, so I think I will use it regularly. I was happy to note that my original goal was to try a beginner triathlon and I have completed two since then.

In the past 2 years, my fitness has definitely improved. I joined a beginner triathlon class once a week at a city recreation centre. Now, I am belong to a triathlon club, which is really motivating and inspiring.

Before this last bout of illness, I was doing a 2 hour strength / spin class, and an hour swim class every week. I also walked about twice a week during my lunch hour with friends.

I also keep active by not owning a car and doing a lot of walking every day. I moved so that my walk to work is 20 minutes in the summer (and a lot longer in the winter), so I get AT LEAST 40 minutes of exercise five times a week.


Currently, my goals are :
how many calories I burn a week - I report on my progress in my blog

how many kilometres I've walked in a week - I need a better system to track this (no reward, just fun to see the bar chart go up)

getting to bed on time, getting up on time (rewards are felt daily as I am back to the "land of the living" again)

drinking enough water (again, I like clicking the icon everyday)

getting to work at a certain time - I am on a return to work prograrm from an extended illness - this has been really challenging for me in the past, but it is getting easier as I am getting better... my reward is a facial after I've reached a certain number of "points" I've given myself - I'm almost there and I'm super excited!!!!

tidy for 15 minutes and do a load of dishes EVERY DAY - reward is that I can actually have people over now!

(I can definitely do better than this... I was low iron and hadn't trained in a month but I had paid my money so I did it anyways!)

    Thanks for the blog comments! I haven't decided on the next half marathon (I like that distance for a challenge, still haven't crossed the Rubicon to commit to a full marathon) because I may be going out of the country later in the year.
