I have been using sparkpeople for about 2 yrs now and it is going great. At one point I lost 95 pounds. Then I got off the program and gained 20 pounds back in a year. So now I am back on the program to lose and keep those pounds off.

My Story:

About two years ago I went to the doctor because I was bitten by a dog. When the doctor took my blood pressure he informed me that i could die just sitting there talking to him. My reading was 210 over 180. He ordered a blood test and found out that on top of the blood pressure I had high cholesteral and diabetes . I needed to make some changes if I was going to continue living . I was 290 pounds.
I was eating all the wrong things and never exercised . The first change I was able to make was to stop eating fast food completely . After a couple of months my cholesterol problem was gone but I needed to lose weight for my diabetes and blood pressure. That is when i started using sparkpeople. I started counting calories and walking. This is the only "program" that I followed.

At first I was only walking around the block a couple of times but I started increasing the distance every week . I gradually increased the distance until I was averaging 30 miles a week .This coupled with eating only 1500 calories a day of healthy food enabled me to lose 95 pounds in 8 months. I found that I really enjoyed walking and I missed it when i didn't do it.

My diabetes is also gone now that I have lost weight and my blood pressure is better. I also feel much better physically and mentally.

It was not always easy to keep going and lose the weight but I am glad I did it and I am not going back.

Just do what you can do and don't compare yourself to others. It may take you longer to reach your goal than other people reach theirs but you will reach your goal if you don't give up. Follow the sparkpeople program and it will work. Push yourself just a little harder each day and when you screw up just get back on the sparkpeople "program" and don't beat yourself up. Remember "one day at a time".
