No matter what thyroid meds you take, if you take them sublingually, e.g. under the tongue or between the gum and cheek and let them dissolve, there are thousands of capillaries in your mouth to absorb the medication whereas, if you swallow them with water, your stomach acid will bind to some of the meds and you won't get the full benefits. I found this information while researching Armour dessicated thyroid meds at www.stopthethyroidmadness.com. Almost all thyroid meds are bound together in a sugar base, so they taste sweet and not at all offensive. I'm currently working with a FORMERLY uncooperative primary care physician who, after my endo left town, was doing only TSH bloodwork and had lowered my synthroid to a 20 year low..... I am hypothyroid with Hashi's. When I got to the point I could hardly drag myself out of bed, my skin was virtually flaking off and my hair falling out she finally agreed to run TSH, free T3 and free T4, called me w/results to say she was increasing my synthroid & I should get tested again in 6 wks....DUH!!! 4821 days ago
