Hello SparkFriends!
Originally I am a New England boy. Born and lived in Massachusetts for about 40 years. Decided to move out west about 7 years ago. I love it here in San Francisco, the weather, the views, the people--fantastic!~
Too bad I brought my fat personality with me! At this point in my life I'm going for a lifestyle change - not another diet. I think I'm in the right boat here at SparkPeople.com.
Just started putting this page together. Will be adding more to the photo gallery later...

My Goals:
Starting weight 300, goal weight 150

Goal: To become healthy and more comfortable.

My Program:
Right now I am learning what I need to do, however, I know one important aspect to meeting my goals is to create small achievable goals (that are still a stretch) and follow through with them. They may not even directly relate to weight loss, however, in changing the mind I hope the body will follow :)

Personal Information:
Originally I am a New England boy. Born and lived in Massachusetts for about 40 years. Decided to move out west before I got "too old." I love it here in San Francisco, the weather, the views, the people--fantastic!~

Other Information:
Favorite Book: Too many to mention.

Favorite Movie: Too many again, but will mention a comedy I really liked (we all need a little laughter in our lives), "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

Love to cook, love my pets (dog and cat), my friends (miss the ones from back east, though), enjoy my job as a medical technologist, like to travel but haven't done much since my move out west, also like to kayak (not rapids!) but again haven't done much lately. Partly the weight holds me back from doing alot of physical and social things I would like to do...can anyone relate? haha.

Hi BuddhaRunner!! Congrats on your 60+ day streak on 'SparkGuy's 10 Minute Fitness Club Group Forum'. I think the longest I've made it is four days lol, but I'm working on it. I just noticed you're originally from Mass. My company is headquartered in Tewksbury. We're called Worldwide Tech Services now but we used to be Wang, Wang Global, Getronics then QualxServ. I was wondering if you have heard of us or may know anyone that works for my company. I live near Atlanta, GA. Well nice to meet you! Congrats on your success thus far. It's encouraging to see your post on the 10 min fit club group forum.

    emoticon Greetings and emoticon

Congrats on getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support- it's also lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together.
Sometimes the best way to start is to just pick a small goal such as drinking 8 glasses of water a day or eating 5 fruits and veggies plus a small exercise goal such as increasing whatever you've been doing by 10% - I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized here instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' and another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I have - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
Please check out SparkTeams - you can choose them by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location, common goals such as a certain weight loss or several other ways. I'd also like to invite you to join the Virtual Walk/Run/Cycle Thru the US @ exercise.lbl.gov SparkTeam - it's a really fun way to track your walking while you travel 'virtually' across America from Virginia to Oregon. Go to the SparkTeam page at www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i
    ndividual.asp?gid=19805 for more information.
If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site and great FAQs for many topics. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site. I wish you the best on your journey!!!
