I earned my black belt in karate at age 51. I loved karate, but my knees eventually decided I couldn't study it anymore. Both of my daughters have black belts, too.

Presently, I have a Cubii and a Fitbit and I'm using them to add more activity to my life. Goals: to up my cardio intensity and add strength training.

Previously:

I have been trying for several years to get healthier and more active. I have been working out with workout videos and DVDs, generally 3-5 times a week. I do step, aerobics, stability ball, yoga, and weight-lifting. I particularly enjoy Sharon Mann's The Works workouts. videofitness.com is a great site for getting information on workout DVDs and videos.

I am studying karate, and I love it! I have a double black stripe belt, and I'm now in hard training for my black belt, which I hope to earn sometime this year. Both of my daughters have black belts. My oldest has a black belt second degree and she is now teaching karate at our dojo, and my youngest has her black belt, first degree, although she's not in active training now.

I wore a pedometer daily for a long time, and I used it to participate in the Eowyn Challenge, since I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan. I made it all the way to Mount Doom and back, recording a total of over 4,000 miles. Read about the Eowyn Challenge here:

e/index.html Now I wear a Gruve device, which tells me how many calories I burn a day.

One thing I also did recently is to buy a Laptop Lunches lunch box. See the website here: http://www.laptoplunches.com/ I first learned about them when I ran across the Vegan Lunchbox site here: http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/ which has a lot of very cool and interesting ideas for packing your own lunch. My Flickr pictures of some of the lunches I have packed are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/19648011@N00/

I want to drop perhaps ten more pounds. I think tracking everything I eat will help.

My Program:
I am using workout DVDs and videos, doing step, aerobics, weightlifting, stability ball, and yoga. I also do elliptical at my office gym. I have studied karate in the past and hope to get back to it again soon. I wear a pedometer every day and I've started bicycling to work.

Are you interested in a Challenge?

The Biggest Loser goes for 10 weeks. It consists of 10 teams participating in weekly Fitness and Nutrition challenges. The Spring challenge will be getting started the beginning of March. It consists of fitness and nutrition challenges that are often in a form of a game. If for some reason you cannot do a challenge then they are modified to meet your needs. Often we do the challenge in a game form, we have BINGO and TIC TAC TOE or seasonally themed. For Winter we had Help Santa Fill His Sleigh, Run Rudolf Run and Super Bowl. If you decide this might be for you you can leave your name on the waitlist for the Spring challenge. To get to the Challenge go to my page and click on the Blue Biggest Loser Icon, copy and paste the link below, or let me know and I can send you an invite. Join the Team then sign up on the waitlist. It’s the thread right below the Frosted Fitness Fun Chit Thread.

Thank you for educating me. I suppose I should be more understanding but it's confusing to me to see people who have trouble saying no to sweets (I just don't think about it. 'do you want some of this--' 'No.' lol) when it was relatively easy for me to go from eating everything in sight to restricting myself.

That is so cool that you're getting your black belt along with your daughters! Have you read Black Belt Mama's blog? She did the same thing. So inspiring. http://www.blackbeltmama.com

Hi! It's great to see you. So far SparkPeople has gotten to stop and *think* about what I eat, so I'd say it's already changed me for the better.

Best of luck on your continued health-improvement efforts!
