I earned my black belt in karate at age 51. I loved karate, but my knees eventually decided I couldn't study it anymore. Both of my daughters have black belts, too.

Presently, I have a Cubii and a Fitbit and I'm using them to add more activity to my life. Goals: to up my cardio intensity and add strength training.


I have been trying for several years to get healthier and more active. I have been working out with workout videos and DVDs, generally 3-5 times a week. I do step, aerobics, stability ball, yoga, and weight-lifting. I particularly enjoy Sharon Mann's The Works workouts. is a great site for getting information on workout DVDs and videos.

I am studying karate, and I love it! I have a double black stripe belt, and I'm now in hard training for my black belt, which I hope to earn sometime this year. Both of my daughters have black belts. My oldest has a black belt second degree and she is now teaching karate at our dojo, and my youngest has her black belt, first degree, although she's not in active training now.

I wore a pedometer daily for a long time, and I used it to participate in the Eowyn Challenge, since I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan. I made it all the way to Mount Doom and back, recording a total of over 4,000 miles. Read about the Eowyn Challenge here:

My Goals:
I want to work toward leading a consistently healthy lifestyle and lose a few pounds. And enjoy doing it.

My Program:
I am using workout DVDs and videos, doing step, aerobics, weightlifting, stability ball, and yoga. I also do elliptical at my office gym. I have studied karate in the past and hope to get back to it again soon. I wear a pedometer every day and I've started bicycling to work.

    Are you interested in a Challenge?

    The Biggest Loser goes for 10 weeks. It consists of 10 teams participating in weekly Fitness and Nutrition challenges. The Spring challenge will be getting started the beginning of March. It consists of fitness and nutrition challenges that are often in a form of a game. If for some reason you cannot do a challenge then they are modified to meet your needs.     Thank you for educating me. I suppose I should be more understanding but it's confusing to me to see people who have trouble saying no to sweets (I just don't think about it. 'do you want some of this--' 'No.' lol) when it was relatively easy for me to go from eating everything in sight to restricting myself.
