I've lost 25 lbs this year, simply by exercising more and eating less, especially the afternoon sweets I previously couldn't resist. I'm loving shopping for clothes 2 and 3 sizes smaller than what I was wearing last year, and that's motivating me not to gain the weight back as I have in the past. Favorite workout videos are 30 and 45 minute kickboxing and cardio intensive ones. I take my little schnoodle for longer walks; I can't ignore the trash, so we take different routes. Our neighborhood is a little bit cleaner and he enjoys the different p-mail messages:)

My Goals:
1. I want to look and feel GREAT.
2. I want to model healthy habits for my kids.
3. I want to have more energy to do the things I enjoy.

My Program:
I've been walking at least 6 days/week for more than an hour each time. Once I learned I kill more calories/minute biking, I started biking instead of walking when possible. I'm measuring portions - an educational experience for me! I'm finding that I'm feeling full on smaller portions, and I'm focusing on increasing fiber and protein intake.
I'm drinking a lot more water than I ever did before, and it's not a chore any more.
I'm eating more fruit.
I haven't had a soda since Labor Day (and I've resisted several tempting opportunities!).

Personal Information:
I've lived in China with my husband, and Africa with him and our oldest daughter. We've traveled to many countries in-between. I'm an active member of Al-Anon, a 12-step program for people who have been affected by someone else's drinking. The tools I've learned there go a long way toward helping me with my weight-loss goals, like focusing on "one day at a time."
If you're an Al-Anon member, too, I'd love to hear from you.

    Welcome to the Expat's team ! It's always great to have new members on board. I see that you have lived in Africa before - whereabouts did you live ? I currently live on a farm in Tanzania, East Africa and I am originally from Zimbabwe (Harare) and also spent many years living all over South Africa.     Annie - Be good to yourself, please! It is SUCH a good thing that you are doing for yourself, getting in some exercise every day. Hopefully, you just need a reminder that one day - even a week - of old-style eating habits doesn't need to change your direction. You are losing and getting healthier. None of us is perfect, but we can go, mostly, in the right direction. This is a marathon, not a sprint, after all. And YOU are doing (mostly) a great job!

    YES! We must stay together. Especially during the holidays. Don't let a little desperation keep you from doing what you need to do. I gained 5 POUNDS over the last four days. I had to tell myself to get on the exercise bike today. I didn't make myself spend an hour there, either. I said, 5 minutes and then we'll see how you feel...

    I only did the five, but the point is, do what you can when you can-little by little if need be-and make it happen because you are strong, veggies are good and we're all here for you.
